As a male Human and a distinguished Jedi Master, Shayoto played an active role within the Jedi Order during the years immediately preceding the Great Sith War. Born sometime prior to 4800 BBY, Shayoto received training in the Jedi way from a Jedi Master known for their exceptional longevity, who themselves was trained by a Master that had lived for millennia. Shayoto also learned from his Master's Master, who shared insights into historical events like the Hundred-Year Darkness and the Great Hyperspace War, as well as the operational methods of the followers who embraced the dark side of the Force. Following his Jedi training and subsequent promotion to Jedi Master, Shayoto witnessed the Gank Massacres in 4800 BBY and the Vultar Cataclysm in 4250 BBY. By 3997 BBY, the Jedi Master's lifespan had extended beyond 800 years. In that year, Shayoto participated in the Conclave at Deneba, a Jedi meeting held on the Mid Rim planet of Deneba. This gathering aimed to address the emerging threat presented by the Krath, a dark-side organization originating from the Empress Teta system. The experienced Jedi Master contributed his understanding of how darksiders operated during the conclave's discussions. During a break, the Jedi present on Mount Meru on Deneba were attacked by Krath war droids; however, the Jedi successfully defended themselves against the droid army.
Born sometime before 4800 BBY, Shayoto, a male Human, was eventually discovered to possess Force-sensitivity. Subsequently, he became a member of the Jedi Order and was mentored by a very old Jedi Master. In addition, his Master's Master instructed Shayoto, recounting the events of the Hundred-Year Darkness and the Great Hyperspace War, which the ancient Jedi had personally experienced. Shayoto's Master's Master also imparted knowledge regarding the operational tactics of the dark side's agents, detailing how darksiders acted covertly, biding their time until societal leaders were under their control, before launching swift and decisive attacks. Following the completion of his training, Shayoto attained the rank of Jedi Master. He continued to live for numerous centuries, enduring the Gank Massacres in 4800 BBY and the Vultar Cataclysm 550 years later.

In 3997 BBY, a conclave of Jedi convened on the Mid Rim planet of Deneba in response to recent events. The Krath, a dark-side-wielding group, had seized power within the Empress Teta system and declared war against the Jedi Order. Although Shayoto had already lived for over 800 years, the aging Jedi Master traveled to Deneba. A large assembly of Jedi, including Shayoto, participated in the gathering on Mount Meru on Deneba. During the conclave, the Jedi sought a strategy to neutralize the Krath threat. Eventually, Ulic Qel-Droma, the young Jedi Watchman of the Tetan worlds, addressed the assembly, asserting that a full-scale war with the Krath would not eliminate the underlying dark-side threat. After hearing this, Shayoto requested to speak, and despite not being recognized by Master Odan-Urr, the conclave's spokesperson, fellow Jedi Master Arca Jeth advocated for Shayoto to be allowed to address the other Jedi.
Shayoto shared his recollections of past events with the assembled Jedi Knights, including the Hundred-Year Darkness, Great Hyperspace War, Gank Massacres, and the Vultar Cataclysm, and conveyed his understanding of the methods employed by darksiders. The aged Jedi Master emphasized the importance of eradicating the Krath conspiracy at its source to prevent its spread beyond the Empress Teta system. Qel-Droma concurred and proposed infiltrating the Krath organization to uncover their secrets, an idea that was met with resistance from the gathered Jedi. Jeth, in particular, strongly opposed the plan, fearing that Qel-Droma might succumb to the dark side if he attempted such a mission. A recess was subsequently called, and before the conclave could resume, the Jedi were ambushed by hundreds of life pods containing Krath war droids launched from orbit. Now under attack, the assembled Jedi were compelled to fight off the war droids, and after a fierce engagement, they emerged victorious. However, numerous Jedi, including Arca Jeth, were killed.
Over the course of many centuries, Shayoto, through the lessons of his Master and his Master's Master, gained extensive knowledge of galactic history, the conflicts between the light and dark sides of the Force, and the workings of agents of the dark side. The Jedi Master freely shared his knowledge with the Jedi Order, as demonstrated during the Conclave on Deneba. Despite being over 800 years old at the time of the conclave, Shayoto was still vigorous enough to attend, hiking up Mount Meru. Shayoto displayed a degree of boldness by stepping forward to speak during the Jedi meeting, even though he had not yet been recognized by the meeting's spokesperson, Odan-Urr. However, Shayoto was held in sufficient regard that Arca Jeth, a respected Jedi Master, believed he should be allowed to express his views regardless. The centuries-old Jedi Master harbored resentment towards the dark side of the Force and its adherents, viewing them as malevolent and blaming them for the downfall of numerous civilizations, some of which had taken eons to develop. At the time of the Conclave on Deneba, Shayoto had wrinkled skin, a hunched posture, and relied on a large cane for support.
Shayoto made his debut in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi - Dark Lords of the Sith, the fourth story arc of the Tales of the Jedi comic book series, authored by Kevin J. Anderson and Tom Veitch from late 1994 to early 1995. Shayoto appeared in the arc's third issue, titled Descent to the Dark Side, where he played a minor role. Shayoto did not appear or receive mention in any other issues within the arc, and this marks his sole appearance in Star Wars lore. In his appearance, Shayoto was illustrated by Chris Gossett.
Although Shayoto was featured in the comic book adaptation of Dark Lords of the Sith, the Jedi Master was absent from the Dark Lords of the Sith audio drama. In the audio version, Shayoto's lines were reassigned to Arca Jeth.
