The period known as the Sictis Wars comprised a two-decade portion of the larger New Sith Wars, a thousand-year battle that began with a re-emerged empire belonging to the Sith Order. Spanning from 1250 BBY to 1230 BBY, the Sictis Wars' commencement coincided with the emergence of a significant Sith leader, the Dark Lord Belia Darzu. During this time, Lord Darzu masterminded the Sictis Wars' most prominent menace: the organic-metal amalgamations referred to as technobeasts. With a military force consisting of these altered Sithspawn beings under her control, the technobeasts were unleashed to wreak havoc on the Galactic Republic and the Jedi. In the final year of this era, Darzu met her end through assassination at the hands of her former associates, the clandestine Mecrosa Order. Despite this, the Sith were considered the victors, albeit without a clear successor to assume Darzu's position as Dark Lord.
For three-quarters of a millennium, starting from 2000 BBY, the New Sith Wars had been raging across the galaxy. This conflict was sparked by a re-emerging group within the Sith Order, a group of dark side users who stood in opposition to both the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order. As the New Sith Wars progressed, the Republic's position weakened, consequently bolstering the Sith's influence. Before the Sictis Wars, the Sith were primarily led by the despotic Darth Rivan, a Sith Lord who commanded his unique type of warriors, known as the Battlelords. During a skirmish on the planet Almas, Rivan inadvertently opened a wormhole that transported him through time to the future Ruusan campaign, leading to the Sith Lord's ultimate demise.

In 1250 BBY, during the latter stages of the New Sith Wars, the Sictis Wars began with the rise of a new Sith leader: a female Shi'ido Dark Lord named Belia Darzu. Operating from a concealed base on the planet Tython, Lord Darzu conducted experiments involving Sith alchemy and the Force ability known as mechu-deru. In her pursuit of creating metal and flesh hybrids, she invented the nanogene spore, a technovirus capable of transforming living beings into Sithspawn referred to as technobeasts. Within Darzu's fortress, individuals from various species were exposed to the virus, resulting in the formation of a technobeast army known as the Metanecrons.
With their allegiance pledged to the Dark Lord, the technobeasts were unleashed upon the Galactic Republic and the Jedi, quickly becoming recognized as the defining horror of the Sictis Wars. In battle, the technobeasts were notorious for infecting their adversaries with the nanogene spore, thus assimilating more subjects into the ranks of mutated cyborgs. However, one male Jedi Knight managed to withstand the effects of the technovirus through the power of the Force. Maintaining his identity and becoming known as the "technobeast Jedi," the Knight continued his service to the galaxy for decades under this new title.
By the final year of the Sictis Wars, the alliance between Lord Darzu and the Mecrosa Order—a clandestine assassin group based in the Tapani sector—had dissolved. Despite their past connections to the Sith, the Mecrosa sought revenge in response to Darzu's unwelcome intrusion into their territory. Furthermore, Lord Darzu was betrayed by her own Sith followers, who would ultimately contribute to her impending assassination. Consequently, Belia Darzu was poisoned to death by the Mecrosa on Tython, bringing the Sictis Wars to an end in 1230 BBY.
Despite Belia Darzu's assassination, the Sictis Wars were ultimately considered a victory for the Sith. However, this victory left the dark side cult without a clear line of succession, as no one was designated to assume the mantle of Dark Lord. The murder of Lord Darzu crippled her technobeast army, effectively halting the production of new Sithspawn hybrids. Nevertheless, the conclusion of the Sictis Wars did not permanently eliminate this distinct threat. In the aftermath of the conflict, Darzu's Sith successors continued to utilize the creatures, albeit in smaller numbers, until the New Sith Wars finally concluded in 1000 BBY.
The Sictis Wars were initially mentioned as an unspecified period within the New Sith Wars in Evil Never Dies: The Sith Dynasties, a Hyperspace article penned by Abel G. Peña in 2006. Author Daniel Wallace later identified this period as the Sictis Wars in The New Essential Guide to Droids, a reference book published by Del Rey.
