Siene Symm, a Sullustan of the male persuasion, made his living as a con artist. After his capture by the forces of the Galactic Empire, he received a sentence of forced labor. During this [time](/article/time/legends], Symm dedicated himself to refining his abilities as a pilot, while simultaneously developing a deep-seated animosity towards the Empire. Upon gaining his freedom, Symm enlisted with Reekeene's Roughnecks, a military contingent within the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He became the co-pilot of the uniquely modified yacht known as the Long Shot, serving under the command of Captain Ixsthmus, with whom Symm cultivated a friendship.
From 0 BBY onward, the Sullustan took the helm of the Long Shot for numerous operations. A frequent task involved transporting various Roughnecks teams to different planets where they would carry out their specific assignments. In 0 ABY, while en route to Abonshee with the Roughnecks' Green squad, Symm's duties were interrupted by an assault from a pirate by the name of Jayhawk. The Long Shot managed to withstand the attack, and Symm later participated in engagements on both Alabash and Iyuta.
Siene Symm, a male Sullustan originating from Sullust, was skilled in the arts of deception, dishonesty, and forgery. However, his illicit activities eventually led to his capture, resulting in a sentence of labor aboard an Imperial warship. During his period of servitude, Symm enhanced his expertise in the utilization and maintenance of starship technologies, while also solidifying his anti-Imperial sentiments. After several years of captivity, he regained his freedom. Driven by a desire to contribute to the Empire's defeat, Symm joined the ranks of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Around 0 BBY, he was selected to pilot the Long Shot, a modified GX1 Short Hauler, under the leadership of Captain Ixsthmus. Symm and Ixsthmus constituted the sole organic crew members of the ship, although two droids, R2-V0 and Four-Onebee, were assigned to the vessel, which frequently transported Rebel squads to various planets for diverse missions. The Long Shot was assigned to Reekeene's Roughnecks, a partisan group within the Alliance commanded by General Lens Reekeene.
In 0 ABY, the Long Shot received orders to transport the newly formed Green squad of Roughnecks to the planet Masterhome to establish diplomatic ties with the indigenous population. While Ixsthmus communicated the situation, Symm took control of the ship. Their journey was intercepted by the pirate vessel Martinette, captained by Jayhawk. After the Rebels successfully repelled the self-proclaimed privateers, Symm guided the ship to Masterhome. Both Symm and Ixsthmus remained aboard during the negotiations, which were conducted by Green squad.
This allowed Symm to later identify an approaching Imperial vessel, the Curich-class shuttle Resurgence. Recognizing that the Imperials would identify the Long Shot as a Rebel ship upon their arrival at Masterhome, Ixsthmus instructed Symm to depart immediately, even before Green squad could re-embark. Symm alerted Green squad to the situation via a communicator, assuring them of his return with reinforcements and advising them to remain hidden. The Long Shot linked up with two Roughneck X-wings and returned to Masterhome to assist Green squad if necessary. The situation concluded with the Imperials defeated and Masterhome joining the Alliance.
Symm continued to serve with the Roughnecks on various missions, including shuttle services to the volcanic planet Alabash and monitoring the communication center on Iyuta, which required evading several custom officers. During the latter mission, Symm passed the time playing sabacc with fellow Rebels, winning a considerable sum of money. It was also during this mission that Symm and the rest of the Long Shot crew discovered that General Reekeene had been captured by Imperial forces and sent to the planet Flankers, which was facing imminent destruction due to its sun going nova within hours. In a desperate attempt to rescue her, the Long Shot crew journeyed to Flankers. Symm piloted the Long Shot, engaging the Imperials' orbital and aerial defenses. Subsequently, a squad was dispatched to the planet's surface to rescue Reekeene, with Symm providing updates on the remaining time before the nova.
Siene Symm was a diligent and skilled co-pilot, consistently demonstrating professionalism and competence. He honed a range of skills related to space transports, encompassing piloting, repairs, and the operation of weapons and communications systems. On one occasion, he attempted to repair the droid R2-V0, believing that its unusual noises stemmed from a malfunction. Symm, unaware that R2-V0 was attempting to create poetry, was unable to prevent the droid from continuing its artistic endeavors. Symm also retained skills from his past, including forgery and gambling, which he occasionally used to win money from his peers. As a Rebel Alliance officer, Symm routinely carried a blaster pistol.
Symm was a cheerful and enthusiastic individual who enjoyed traveling, piloting, and interacting with others. Though still a con artist at heart, he cultivated a facade of naivety to mask his true abilities. Symm was also a bon vivant, indulging in extravagant clothing and exotic food and Drilbian wine. His quarters aboard the Long Shot were even more lavish than the Captain's. Symm utilized red lighting and a dense atmosphere in his cabin to replicate the conditions of his home planet, Sullust, a feature that was often disliked by non-Sullustan visitors. As of 1 ABY, Symm had served under Ixsthmus for a year, and the two had developed a strong friendship, despite their contrasting backgrounds.
