Dark science laboratory

The dark science laboratory was situated within the expansive Sith Citadel located on the planet of Exegol. Devoted to the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, the Sith Eternal Sith cult utilized this lab for genetic experimentation. Sidious, consumed by a deep desire to achieve immortality, had long regarded bioengineering and cloning technologies as viable avenues toward achieving everlasting life. Consequently, the Dark Lord of the Sith charged his subordinates with the daunting task of both creating and maintaining an organic being possessing significant power in the Force, which would serve as a suitable vessel to contain Sidious' dark essence.

During this endeavor, the Sith Eternal combined technological advancements with occult practices, resulting in the creation of unnatural manifestations of the dark side. Numerous strandcasts were generated within the laboratory's unholy machinery, yet many of these creations were deformed abominations, deemed unfit to hold Sidious' god-like consciousness. Through considerable experimentation, a partially successful outcome was eventually achieved—the Force-sensitive entity known as Snoke. Sidious later appointed Snoke as the puppet ruler of the First Order in his place. Despite Snoke's grotesque appearance and inherent weakness, the strandcast fulfilled its intended purpose as Sidious' surrogate, and ultimately trained the young Ben Solo in the ways of the dark side of the Force. Several cloned copies of Snoke were preserved within the laboratory, contained within tubes filled with nutrient-rich fluid and cared for by Sith cultists.

Behind the scenes

The Sith Citadel laboratory made its debut appearance in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which is the third movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Later, in 2022, the location was featured in the video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. In this game, players can engage in a brief minigame called "Build-a-Snoke," where they must align three different body parts to match Snoke's attire. Successfully completing this minigame unlocks Snoke as a playable character. Furthermore, a cutscene depicts the infamous Jar Jar Binks inside a clone vat, waving to Kylo Ren.
