Star Wars: Darth Maul is a comic book series, published by Dark Horse Comics, which details Darth Maul's assignment to eliminate the leaders of the Black Sun criminal syndicate. Its original publication spanned from September 6, 2000, until December 6 of the same year.
In the time leading up to the events of Star Wars Episode I, Darth Sidious commanded his devoted apprentice, Darth Maul, to take down one of the galaxy's most influential criminal organizations: the Black Sun. Maul initiates his mission by assassinating two of the nine vigos, which compels the remaining leaders to gather with Alexi Garyn himself on Ralltiir, within the seemingly impenetrable Black Sun Fortress. The Sith Lord soon arrives at the designated planet and concludes his mission with another act of extreme violence, eliminating all the remaining vigos, Alexi Garyn himself, along with his bodyguard, the lethal Mighella. Following Maul's successful completion of his task, Prince Xizor assumes control of Black Sun at a later time.
The narrative of Maul's elimination of the Vigos is mentioned in the Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith novelization, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, Darth Maul: Saboteur, and Darth Plagueis.
The Scimitar is initially provided to Darth Maul during the events of this story. This also marks the first instance of Maul utilizing its probe droids and speeder bike.
One of the vigo's protectors bears a resemblance to Quinlan Vos, displaying a similar hairstyle and yellow facial tattoo.
