Star Wars: The Clone Wars (novelization)

Publisher's summary

Back cover

The Clone Wars rage on, revealing hidden motives and darker fates, forcing the Jedi to confront a critical question: Can the outcome ever justify the methods used? The Jedi are about to find out.

Inside flap

The Clone Wars are sweeping across the galaxy. Count Dooku, once a Jedi but now a secret Sith Lord, leads the Separatists in their relentless advance, causing more and more planets to either fall or break away to join their cause. The Republic, under the guidance of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, fights valiantly, supported by its vast army of clone troopers and their Jedi commanders.

Some believe that Anakin Skywalker is the "Chosen One" from prophecy, destined to restore balance to the Force. He is now a Jedi Knight, learning from his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Death is a constant threat, and his chances of survival are further complicated by the sudden arrival of Ahsoka, a bold and inexperienced fourteen-year-old Padawan. However, Anakin has no time to question his latest orders. He and Obi-Wan have been given a new assignment, and failure is not an option.

Jabba the Hutt's young son has been abducted, and the desperate parent turns to the Jedi for assistance. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and their clone troops are tasked with finding the evidence and rescuing the missing Huttlet. The stakes are high: If Jabba is grateful, he might grant the Republic access to the Hutt-controlled hyperspace lanes, which the Grand Army urgently needs to defeat the Separatists.

However, the Republic is not the only faction seeking access to these crucial space lanes. Count Dooku is determined to secure them for the Separatists and has set a trap for the Jedi. When they locate the Huttlet, they will also encounter Dooku's deadly assassin, Asajj Ventress, and countless battle droids lying in wait.

The new animated film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, unfolds in the years leading up to Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, setting the stage for the groundbreaking TV series. Both the film and series feature original content conceived by the legendary Star Wars creator George Lucas. These exciting new adventures and characters are brought to life in book form by none other than Karen Traviss, a #1 New York Times bestselling Star Wars author.

Continuity

Star Wars: The Clone Wars has presented several challenges to established continuity.

Dating of events

According to the Star Wars Annual 2011, the story occurs during the second year of the war. This dating was established as part of a larger restructuring of the Clone Wars timeline to align with the TV series. The Essential Reader's Companion later adjusted the story's timeline to 22 BBY.

The book was released before the film and includes details from earlier versions of the screenplay that were ultimately cut from the final film.

CT-9932

During the Battle of Teth, near the end of chapter 12, after Asajj Ventress's droid forces decimate Torrent Company, Captain Rex requests that the survivors report in using their comlink. Six troopers respond, including Coric and CT-9932.

However, when the remaining troopers are mentioned again near the end of chapter 13, there are only six in total: Rex, Coric, Zeer, Attie, Nax, and Del. This number remains consistent throughout the rest of the Teth sequence. This also agrees with Rex's observation upon regaining consciousness that his helmet's HUD indicated five of his men were still alive. This suggests that two of the six comlink responses in chapter 12 came from the same trooper, meaning CT-9932 must be the designation for either Zeer, Attie, Nax, or Del, although the novel does not explicitly identify which trooper it refers to.
