Star Wars 77: Chanteuse of the Stars... represents the seventy-seventh installment within the broader Marvel Star Wars comic book saga.
In a single, unrepeatable appearance, behold the vocalist poised to capture your heart and shatter your glassware. Presenting none other than Leia Organa, "Chanteuse of the Stars." The fate of the rebel alliance may well rest on her ability to charm a gathering of Ambassadors, but given her vocal talents (she's no Dazzler!), the rebels might be better off laying down their arms and surrendering!
After completing their assignment on Iskalon as depicted in the previous issue, Lando Calrissian, Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 make their way back to Haven Base located on Arbra. They deliver a report detailing the destruction witnessed on Iskalon and their unsuccessful attempt to locate Tay Vanis. The Rebel General in charge expresses gratitude for their efforts, while also revealing the existence of fresh intelligence pertaining to the search. It appears that both Yom Argo and Tay Vanis had managed to acquire information about the Empire's new classified weapon. However, it seems another rebel also obtained the same data. This information shockingly indicates that Han Solo is the rebel in question. Leia immediately objects, informing the General that Solo could not possibly be involved, considering he was encased in carbonite long before Tay Vanis went missing. The General counters by stating that the Empire, the very organization responsible for Solo's imprisonment, is the source of this information. The General suggests dividing the group into two teams: one tasked with investigating Han Solo and the perplexing story, and the other dedicated to pursuing new leads concerning Tay Vanis. Lando, Chewbacca, and the two droids opt to pursue the Solo lead, while Luke and Leia are dispatched to Kabray Station to investigate a potential clue regarding Vanis. To successfully infiltrate the diplomatic gathering there, the Hoojib named Plif accompanies them, impersonating the diplomat from the planet Arbra, with Luke and Leia acting as his assistants. Instead of utilizing the Millennium Falcon for their mission, Lando and his crew decide to use another ship. Luke and Leia, however, use the Falcon to dock with Kabray Station and, along with Plif and a group of Hoojibs, enter the diplomatic meeting.
The two Rebels decide to separate, each starting their search for a message left on the station by Vanis. Luke, accompanied by Plif, begins to investigate the private quarters, while Leia discreetly slips away from the meeting and ventures into the back rooms containing the entertainment and kitchen facilities. After examining thirteen suites, Luke finally locates the message within one of the rooms. However, as the Rebels prepare to depart, they overhear a plot to poison the Imperial Governor to prevent a deal he was set to finalize with the Pursians. Simultaneously, Leia is mistaken for Shirley, the "Chanteuse of the Stars," and is compelled to perform a musical piece for the governor. Luke attempts to approach the governor, but he is distracted by a group of Zeltron women who are inexplicably drawn to him. As a poisoned soup is presented to the governor, Luke desperately tries to intervene, but in his haste, one of the Lahsbee delegates undergoes a transformation into a Huhk, causing chaos at the banquet. Amidst the ensuing pandemonium, Luke manages to knock the soup away from the governor.
However, as the stormtroopers stationed on the station attempt to restrain the creature, they discover that their blaster's energy cells have been completely depleted. As the Huhk lunges towards Luke, Plif signals Leia to continue her song. Leia obliges, and the Huhk's fury subsides. As Leia continues to sing, the monster sits at Leia's feet, captivated by her performance. Luke relaxes with his Zeltron admirers, relieved that the crisis has been averted. Luke wonders what will happen when Leia's performance ends, hoping that she knows a multitude of verses.
