Stormships represented a type of vessel employed by the Nihil, a marauder organization. Marchion Ro, the Eye of the Nihil, orchestrated the dispatch of a Stormship along a specific Path. This Path was designed to intersect with the route of the freighter named Legacy Run. These actions by Ro deliberately triggered the Great Hyperspace Disaster, where the Legacy Run, while trying to evade the Stormship, disintegrated within hyperspace.
These Stormships made their debut in The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, a 2021 novel penned by Charles Soule as a component of the Star Wars: The High Republic project. The Stormship's design originated from preliminary podracer concept illustrations crafted by John Bell in October of 1995 for the 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
