The Sun Razer A substantial space station, known as the Sun Razer, was conceived by Darth Mekhis and its development took place during the Cold War period.
These constructs were engineered to encompass a star, functioning by extracting both matter and energy. Its engines enabled the provision of greater resources than traditional strip-mining of planets. The energy output was so immense that it could sustain an entire civilization, enabling the creation of potent superweapons by generating sufficient power and materials. However, only specific stars were compatible for use by a Sun Razer.
To withstand a star's energies, a Sun Razer required shielding; disabling this shield resulted in its destruction due to the inability to manage the star's unstable energies.
During the Great Galactic War, the Sith Empire emerged after hiding for centuries to launch a devastating war against the Galactic Republic as part of the Sith Emperor's grand plan. Bursting forth from the shadows, they achieved multiple victories against both the Republic and the Jedi. However, the conflict extended beyond the Emperor's initial projections, leading to resource shortages for the Sith military. Consequently, the Emperor initiated a daring offensive to swiftly conclude the war, culminating in the Sacking of Coruscant. Instead of capitalizing on their gains, the Sith leveraged the attack to impose an unstable peace, formalized by the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant, which brought the war to an end.
Despite this, the Dark Council was not entirely satisfied with the outcome and began preparing for a potential resumption of hostilities. To facilitate this, Dark Councilor Darth Mekhis was tasked with designing the Sun Razer, drawing inspiration from ancient alien technologies like the Star Forge. One such station was built around a star within the Vesla system, with plans for six more in the Black Sectors that were ceded to the Sith Empire under the Treaty of Coruscant. Further construction was limited by the Sun Razer's requirement for specific types of stars.
Among the armaments produced by the Vesla Sun Razer were the Gauntlet, the Emperor's Shadow, the Undying, the Ascendant Spear, and the Silencer. Typically, creating even a single one of these superweapons would require decades and possess enough power to plunge Coruscant into darkness. However, a single Sun Razer enabled the Sith to manufacture two to three such weapons within a year. Jedi Master Ngani Zho discovered the Sun Razer and other weapons developed by Darth Mekhis while undercover as a slave in the Vesla system, an experience that deeply scarred his memory. He later returned with Republic Strategic Information Service agent Theron Shan, who resolved to destroy the Sun Razer.
After being captured, agent Shan successfully liberated himself and his allies, subsequently moving to disable the Sun Razer's protective shields. Following his victory over Darth Mekhis and her Sith Knights, he achieved his goal and escaped back to Republic space. Although the Sun Razer was destroyed, several of the superweapons it had created remained intact. The RSIS Director informed Shan that the Dark Council would likely attempt to deploy them while they still held an advantage. In response, Shan stated his intention to locate the Gauntlet, one of the superweapons developed by the Sun Razer.
