Swoop racing

SwoopRacing-TSS Narmle Memorial Rally swoop racing competition Swooping, also known as swoop racing, was a spectator sport characterized by high speeds, utilizing modified swoop engines. The speed of the vehicles used often reached up to 600 km/h.

During the era of the Jedi Civil War, swoop racers did not compete simultaneously on the track. Instead, each racer would individually navigate a course that was full of obstacles and "acceleration pads" to increase speed. The racer who achieved the fastest time after one or more trials was declared the winner. The swoop racing scene during this time was primarily located on Taris, with additional tracks found on Nar Shaddaa, Onderon, Telos IV, Manaan, and Tatooine. In 3956 BBY, Revan emerged victorious in the Tarisian Season Opener with a modified swoop; however, records of his victory were lost when Taris was destroyed during the Jedi Civil War.

Swoop racing was a consistently popular sport at both the professional and amateur levels, even though it peaked during the Jedi Civil War. When the Empire sanctioned it as a substitute for podracing, its popularity was revived.

Swoop racing was often seen as a safer option than podracing because the tracks were less complicated and the risk of death or injury was lower than in the faster podracing events. The fact that Humans could participate because swoop racing demanded less reflexes than podracing may have also contributed to its appeal. However, as evidenced by the incredibly dangerous Dragonbane races that the Black Seraphs organized in the Agrilat region, swoop racing was not without risk.

Dengar was regarded as a swoop racing hero throughout the Corellian system for his achievements on the professional circuit in his younger years. However, tired of being constantly compared to Han Solo, another young racer from the private circuit, Dengar challenged Solo to a high-stakes, illegal race through Agrilat's treacherous crystal swamps. Solo performed a maneuver during the race that caused Dengar to be thrown from his swoop, headfirst into a crystalline plant, causing serious injuries. Dengar harbored a deep, personal hatred for Solo for the rest of his life after the Empire healed him, fitted him with cybernetics, and assigned him to serve as an Imperial assassin.
