The sword wielded by Ajunta Pall was the weapon of choice for the Sith Lord Ajunta Pall during the tumultuous era of the Hundred-Year Darkness. Upon his death, it was interred alongside him within his tomb located on the desolate world of Korriban.
Throughout his life and even after his death, Ajunta Pall cultivated a formidable reputation. A key component of this reputation was his distinctive double-bladed sword. While some attributed Ajunta's power to the sword itself, Pall himself believed it to be the origin of his corruption.
The sword's blade was famously described as having an ebony black coloration. It was also characterized by notches along its edge, giving it a cruel and serrated appearance. Furthermore, it was noted to be remarkably cool to the touch. Upon closer examination, a subtle insignia depicting a dark circle could be observed on the hilt. The inscription "I am that which grips the heart in fright, hearkens night and silences the light" was etched onto the sword.
During the events of the Jedi Civil War, the redeemed Sith Lord Revan ventured into Pall's tomb with the intention of acquiring the sword. His motivation was to bolster his prestige in the eyes of Uthar Wynn, the master of the nearby Sith Academy (although Revan's true objective was to locate the Star Map). Within Ajunta's sarcophagus, Revan discovered the double-bladed sword alongside two ordinary swords. After engaging in a dialogue with the spirit of the deceased Sith Lord, he successfully identified the correct sword. Following this, Revan guided Pall back towards the light side, ultimately bringing peace to his tormented spirit. However, before departing, Pall cautioned Revan about the corrupting influence of the sword, advising him to relinquish it to avoid a similar fate.
As Revan and his companions exited the tomb, they were confronted by another aspiring Sith, Shaardan. Shaardan had intended to allow another individual to navigate the perilous traps, with the aim of then seizing the sword for himself. Revan refused to surrender the sword, prompting Shaardan to attack. The brief confrontation concluded with Shaardan's death. Revan subsequently returned the blade to Uthar Wynn, and by recounting the events of his encounter with Shaardan, he significantly enhanced his prestige in the eyes of the Sith Master.
Five years later, when Meetra Surik arrived on Korriban, Kreia recounted Revan's story to her. She mentioned that the fate of the ancient artifact after Revan's possession remained unknown.
Almost four millennia later, during the era of the Galactic Civil War, Rothax, an Imperial Staff Sergeant, rewarded an Imperial soldier with a Sith sword for their victories against the Rebel Alliance. This sword was rumored to be a near-perfect replica of Ajunta Pall's original weapon.
While the canonical narrative depicts Revan killing Shaardan and presenting the sword to Master Wynn, the player is presented with multiple choices regarding the sword and its imitations. The player has the option of giving one of the fake swords to Shaardan, who eagerly departs without verifying its authenticity, resulting in his reprimand and Force choked execution by Wynn at the Academy. Alternatively, the player can give the genuine sword to Shaardan, forfeiting prestige. The player can also opt not to surrender the sword to Wynn, as it is possible to attain sufficient prestige without relinquishing any acquired items, allowing the player or a crew member to wield it throughout the remainder of the game.
Despite the sword's prominent role in Ajunta Pall's initial appearance in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, subsequent artwork depicting Ajunta Pall in sources released after Knights of the Old Republic portrays him wielding a lightsaber, specifically a single-bladed one.
