Tomb of Ajunta Pall

The Tomb of Ajunta Pall represented the final resting place of Ajunta Pall, the original Dark Lord of the Sith, and was a Sith tomb. The Dark Jedi Exiles erected it within the Valley of the Dark Lords located on Korriban.

History

Origin

Ajunta Pall, the first Dark Lord of the Sith species and leader of the Sith Empire, was interred within the sacred Valley of the Sleeping Kings, which later became known as the Valley of the Dark Lords on Korriban. As Pall lay buried with his legendary sword, suits of armor, and devoted followers, Korriban and the Sith Empire faced difficult times. The Empire, under the guidance of Dark Lord Naga Sadow, was devastated during a costly war against the Galactic Republic. Following Sadow's retreat and the flight of a portion of the Empire to Dromund Kaas, Supreme Chancellor Pultimo, the Republic's leader, commanded the destruction of Korriban, including the bombing of the Valley of the Dark Lords. The tomb remained concealed beneath sand and debris for thousands of years, while the spirits of the Sith festered beneath the surface of the ruined planet.

Darth Revan returned to the galaxy millennia after the collapse of Pall's Empire, leading an Empire and establishing a presence on Korriban during the Jedi Civil War. After the Jedi Order captured Revan and converted him to the light side of the Force, he returned to Korriban disguised as an acolyte and infiltrated the rebuilt Sith Academy there. During his time there, he explored Pall's tomb, battling the numerous tuk'ata guarding the entrance, as well as some droid protectors. Upon discovering the sarcophagus at the tomb's center, Revan was confronted by the spirit of Ajunta Pall. Revan was challenged to choose the correct sword from three weapons on the chamber wall, and he successfully identified the Dark Lord's ancient weapon, persuading the spirit to abandon its hatred and embrace the light once more.

Meetra Surik, Revan's former ally, returned to Korriban during the Dark Wars shortly after Revan's disappearance in search of the Lost Jedi. She observed that the tomb of Ajunta Pall had suffered severe damage from intense sandstorms and its entrance was blocked. The tomb remained hidden beneath sand and debris for millennia as the Sith were expelled from the galaxy and the Jedi Order maintained a strict quarantine of the planet.

Return of the Sith

At the start of the Great Galactic War, when the True Sith Empire returned to Korriban, Darth Thanaton dispatched teams to the Valley to excavate the tombs and ruins and restore the Valley to its former glory. Teams entered Ajunta Pall's tomb, clearing away rubble in search of ancient artifacts and powerful tools. By the time of the Cold War, the Sith had largely cleared the hallways of the tomb's three levels, and Sith Lord Spindrall had established himself in the facility, overseeing the Trials of blood for apprentices sent to him from the nearby Academy.

To the Empire's dismay, the tomb became infested with a nest of rapidly reproducing k'lor'slugs, a troublesome and vicious creature that plagued the tomb and the surrounding valley. Tomb raiders took advantage of the k'lor'slug infestation, rushing into the tomb to pilfer as many artifacts as possible while the Sith were preoccupied with the problem. Sergeant Cormun of the Imperial Army led a team into the tomb to eradicate the vermin, planting and detonating explosives among the unhatched eggs at the heart of the nest. A military datapad found within the tomb contained information on Imperial Edict 936, which authorized the use of lethal force against mercenaries looting the tombs and the recovery of stolen artifacts by the same. During the same period, the Emperor's Wrath retrieved a specific Sith blade from the tomb as requested by Overseer Tremel during his training days, and used it to destroy both the droids and the k'lor'slugs inside the tomb.

By 40 ABY, archaeologists conducted tests on Pall's tomb to determine if he was indeed one of the first Dark Lords, confirming that his tomb was among the oldest burial sites on Korriban.

Layout

Ajunta Pall's tomb, a stone structure situated in the center of the Valley of the Dark Lords, differed from many other tombs by not being located within the cliff faces of the valley. This squat building, standing alone in the shadow of the Sith Academy, had exterior walls adorned with ancient ruins and spells inscribed by the original members of the Sith Empire.

The tomb consisted of at least three distinct levels, with the entrance leading into a large central hall featuring several passageways and cells branching off from it. Stone pillars supported the ceiling, while artifacts belonging to the Dark Lord and his Empire were displayed around the cells and halls. One room served as an armory, housing ancient weapons protected by droids; the Emperor's Wrath recovered one such Sith sword during the Cold War.

During the Cold War, Lord Spindrall established a training area for his acolytes in an area of the tomb known as the sacrificial chamber, where they trained in the shadow of towering statues and alters. Spindrall, considered a hermit and an outsider by many of his peers, was known to spend his days in deep meditation when he wasn't teaching his apprentices the truth of the Sith Code. At the time, the other chambers were filled with scaffolding and excavation equipment used by the Empire to reconstruct the tomb and clear away debris.
