Those Jedi who existed in the aftermath following the Jedi Civil War were known as the Lost Jedi. This term generally applied to members of the Jedi Order who managed to survive the First Jedi Purge perpetrated by the Dark Jedi faction of Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus. However, Kreia, the exiled Jedi and former leader of Darths Sion and Nihilus' Dark Jedi group, used the term Lost Jedi to describe the followers of her student Meetra Surik, who was also an exiled Jedi. In Kreia's view, these were the true Jedi who would lay the foundation for a new generation of Jedi Order leadership.

Individuals such as Zez-Kai Ell, Kavar, Vrook Lamar, Lonna Vash, Atris, and Deesra Luur Jada, who were Jedi Masters and Councilors, were considered Lost Jedi. Master Vash journeyed to Korriban, but Darth Sion murdered her. Atris remained hidden in her secret Jedi Academy on Telos IV, evading detection by both the Sith and the Jedi. She was presumed dead, as she was scheduled to attend the conclave on Katarr. Just before the Battle of Telos IV, Meetra Surik gathered the remaining members of the Jedi High Council on Dantooine, as agreed with Atris, but Atris chose to remain hidden.
Kreia arrived and killed Vrook, Kavar, and Zez-Kai Ell in the ruins of the Jedi Enclave. After Surik defeated her, Kreia called her student's followers the "true Jedi," stating that they would build the Order's future. By pledging their loyalty to Meetra Surik, the true Jedi became the foundation for a new Jedi Order.
Atton Rand, whom Kreia called "the fool," simply wanted to be left alone by the galaxy's light and dark conflicts. However, after meeting the Jedi Exile at the Peragus Mining Facility, Rand faced his past and vowed to follow the exile. He chose to be trained by the former Jedi, the last Jedi, the true Jedi, to assist her.
Brianna, an Echani hybrid (initially called "Handmaiden" and referred to by Kreia as "the servant of Atris"), was one of the Lost Jedi and a former member of Atris' Handmaiden Sisters. Kreia predicted that the Echani would take Atris' place as the Order's primary Jedi historian.

After Surik left for the Unknown Regions, Mical, whom Kreia called "the disciple," served on the new Jedi High Council as a Jedi Master. He sentenced Atris, who had given up her obsession with the Jedi and the dark side, for her crimes.
Mira, whom Kreia called "the huntress," was once a restless bounty hunter who desired to live in a vibrant environment. On Nar Shaddaa, despite the misery, the people were active and constantly moving. When Mira awoke to her Force sensitivity, she was overwhelmed by the echoes of the Force from Nar Shaddaa's inhabitants. However, the Jedi Exile taught her to calm her mind in the Force, allowing Mira to sense the ebb and flow of life without being consumed by its chaos.
Bao-Dur, an Iridonian Zabrak whom Kreia called "the alien," was originally an engineer who served under Meetra Surik during the Mandalorian Wars. His creation and activation of the Mass Shadow Generator on Malachor V resulted in massive casualties for both the Republic and Mandalorian fleets, as well as the planet's devastation. He also lost his right arm and replaced it with a mechanical one. A decade later, Bao-Dur reunited with his former general during their mission to locate the lost Jedi Council members. With the Exile's help, Bao-Dur overcame his anger and followed in her footsteps as a Jedi.
Visas Marr, a Miraluka whom Kreia called "the Blinded One," returned to her homeworld of Katarr and witnessed the destruction caused by Darth Nihilus to her now-barren world. She asked the Exile to teach her to use the Force to protect the galaxy from harm.
