"Tales of Villainy: The Hostage" is a comic narrative featured as the supporting story in issue 3 of Star Wars Adventures (2020), which was released on February 3, 2021.
On the planet Bahlah, Savage Opress and his Shadow Collective forces were in the process of attempting to breach the entrance to the Stronghold of the Morubas crime family.
Krantz, situated inside the stronghold, informed Jjan, who leads the Morubas crime family, that the attack by the Shadow Collective had intensified. However, Jjan remained unconcerned, secure in the knowledge that he held their leader, the former Dark Lord of the Sith, Maul, as his prisoner.
Maul had approached Jjan with a proposition of alliance. Maul's intention was for the Morubas crime family to unite with him and other syndicates to establish the "Shadow Collective." However, after Jjan discovered Maul's plan to kill him following their meeting, he captured Maul by poisoning him.
Maul cautioned Jjan that Opress and his forces would invade the stronghold, but Jjan expressed confidence in the stronghold's ability to withstand attacks, citing its history of enduring assaults from numerous armies. He proclaimed that they were in the most secure location in the galaxy. However, his overconfidence proved to be his downfall. Maul managed to free himself from his restraints and employed The Force to retrieve his lightsaber.
As the guards charged towards Maul, who then started his counterattack, he revealed that he had intentionally allowed himself to be captured and brought into the stronghold. After defeating the last guard, Maul confronted Jjan. Subsequently, Opress entered and informed Maul that the Shadow Collective had successfully breached the defenses and were seizing control of the stronghold. Jjan expressed disbelief that his soldiers would betray him. However, Maul no longer saw value in incorporating the Morubas crime family into the Shadow Collective. Deeming the crime family unworthy of their legacy, he abandoned Jjan to face the consequences of his actions.
