Tanis Venn, hailing from Tatooine, made his living as a hunter of wraid.
Formerly, Tanis Venn operated as a smuggler. Following an incident where a friend of his ventured into Sith Space and lost everything, Tanis sought a safer profession, turning to hunting on Tatooine. His use of K-X12 battle droids for hunting and protection drew criticism from other hunters, notably Komad Fortuna, who disapproved of the unsportsmanlike nature and the damage inflicted on the wraid population due to the high number of kills required for droid maintenance. Tanis was also married to Marlena, against her mother's advice. Eventually, Marlena grew weary of his infidelity and programmed his battle droids to detonate upon his movement, while he was situated in the Dune Sea. However, the choice between death by explosion or dehydration became irrelevant when Revan intervened, repairing the droids and rescuing Tanis.
Tanis Venn displayed a penchant for womanizing, incurring the wrath of Marlena. This behavior, coupled with his reliance on his wife to repair his droids and clean up after him, suggests a degree of laziness. He showed indifference to the potential extinction of the Wraid population, stating: "When that resource goes belly up, I'll just move on. I'm just a wandering spirit, I guess."
There exists no definitively "good" resolution to this sidequest. Options include freeing Tanis for a credit reward, convincing him to cease using battle droids, or simply abandoning him to his fate. If the player character is female, Tanis will flirt with her inside the Hunting Lodge, addressing her as "darling". This can provoke Zaalbar to growl, and Carth Onasi to react negatively, warning him to "talk to her with a bit of respect in your voice or you end this conversation, minus a few teeth". Conversely, Jolee Bindo may use Force Persuade to compel him to answer questions directly.
When you offer assistance to Tanis while he is trapped in the Dunes, various party members provide unique responses. Bastila Shan initially suggests leaving Tanis to die, a seemingly uncharacteristic stance that Tanis notices. She then retracts her statement, suggesting congratulating Marlena instead. HK-47 proposes blasting him. If T3-M4 is present, Tanis might request the player to have it assist him, only to receive an unfavorable reply. If Jolee is with you he could suggest programming them to do a tap dance. Carth Onasi suggests to help him.
