Taris Civil Authority police cruiser

The Taris Civil Authority police cruiser, a starship, served the Taris Civil Authority as their primary law enforcement vehicle on the planet of Taris circa 3964 BBY. Unlike the craft restricted to Taris' surface, this cruiser possessed the capability to pursue suspects into space. Notably, at least three of these cruisers were deployed in an attempt to capture Jedi Padawan Zayne Carrick and the Snivvian Marn Hierogryph, who were falsely accused of perpetrating the Padawan Massacre on Taris.

Characteristics

This police cruiser was equipped for travel in the vacuum of space and featured weaponry, though lethal use required authorization from the Sector Constable. A prominent blue searchlight was mounted on the front of the cruisers, enhancing visibility.

A unique feature was its "hover mode," enabling occupants to disembark while the ship remained in close proximity. This proved particularly advantageous in low-gravity environments where landing posed challenges.

Role

As the primary law enforcement vehicle for the Taris Civil Authority on Taris, the police cruiser's role was to pursue fugitives beyond the planet's atmosphere. This capability was essential because the craft used planetside lacked the capacity for space travel. When necessary, the cruiser could engage fugitive ships with its weapons, with the aim of destroying them.

History

Around 3964 BBY, the Taris Civil Authority employed these police cruisers. A significant instance of their use occurred when the Taris Civil Authority, in conjunction with the Jedi Covenant, issued an arrest warrant for Jedi Padawan Zayne Carrick and the Snivvian Marn "Gryph" Hierogryph for their supposed involvement in the Padawan Massacre on Taris. Seeking to escape the Civil Authority's grasp, Hierogryph enlisted the aid of Arkanian Offshoot mechanic Gorman "Camper" Vandrayk and his companion Jarael. Shortly after the fugitives connected with Vandrayk and Jarael, an arrest squad under the command of Sector Constable Noana Sowrs and Jedi Master Lucien Draay arrived. Vandrayk made the decision to shelter them aboard his modified starship, The Last Resort, and attempt to flee the planet. The Taris Civil Authority had not anticipated a spaceborne escape and lacked suitable craft. Sowrs, aboard a Civil Authority gunship with Draay, assured him that the police cruisers were capable of intercepting The Last Resort.

Due to unreliable repairs, The Last Resort stalled in orbit, where it was surrounded by three police cruisers. Sector Constable Sowrs authorized the cruisers to employ lethal force if required. Vandrayk managed to repair the ship's systems, allowing it to suddenly accelerate into the Tarisian asteroid belt, colliding with one of the police cruisers. Subsequently, Carrick and Jarael were dropped off on Taris' Rogue Moon in search of T1-LB, an LB-series bulk-loading droid used by the Jedi Tower's masters to deploy portable meditation shields.

The pair located the droid at the base of a cliff, having been pushed off using the Force by Draay. They were then confronted by the Jedi Master himself, who had navigated the asteroid belt in a police cruiser with Civil Authority officers. However, Hierogryph destroyed the unoccupied police cruiser in The Last Resort, having discovered that Vandrayk had diverted power from the hyperdrive to a powerful weapon. During the Siege of Taris, a cruiser was stationed within the Lower City base of the Taris Resistance.

Behind the scenes

The Taris Civil Authority police cruiser was initially referenced in the third issue of the 2006 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comic series. John Jackson Miller wrote this issue, which was published by Dark Horse Comics on March 29, 2006. The cruiser made its debut appearance in the following issue, written by Miller, illustrated by Brian Ching, and released by Dark Horse on April 26 of the same year.
