Tefauns represented a species of sentient humanoids distinguished by their blue complexions, ridged cranial structures, and pronounced eyes. Kelek, a Tefaun banker, famously acquired the Wheel, a space station designed as a gambling destination, and initiated a fierce gladiatorial contest known as the Big Game. Facing declining popularity and revenue shortfalls at the Wheel, Kelek sought financial assistance from the InterGalactic Banking Clan to revitalize her customer base. However, her inability to maintain her repayment commitments ultimately led to the sale of her ownership stake to Dominic Raynor, a businessman. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, Soth Petikkin, hailing from Tefau, played a pivotal role as an influential recruiter for the Rebel Alliance. He leveraged his connections within Jabba the Hutt's Palace, the headquarters of the crime lord situated on the planet of Tatooine, to garner support for the Alliance's cause.
Kelek existed during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. She rose to prominence as a banker, subsequently acquiring the Wheel, a space station renowned for its gambling facilities. Furthermore, she established the Big Game, a rigorous gladiatorial competition hosted within the station's confines. Kelek, also known as Kelek the Blue and Kelek the Insensate, assumed the mantle of the Wheel's third owner following the death of her predecessor, Skijid Vrescot, a crime lord from the J'feh species. The prevalence of scoundrels at the Wheel deterred affluent patrons, leading to a decline in the station's financial performance. In response, Kelek sought a loan from the InterGalactic Banking Clan, hoping to attract a more upscale clientele. Ultimately, she failed to adhere to the repayment schedule, prompting the Banking Clan to demand the loan's settlement, which compelled her to relinquish her ownership shares to Dominic Raynor, a business magnate.
Later, during the Galactic Civil War that pitted the Galactic Empire against the Alliance to Restore the Republic, Soth Petikkin, a Tefaun from Tefau, demonstrated Force-attunement and exhibited limited precognition. He became an influential recruiter for the Alliance. Petikkin utilized his contacts within Jabba the Hutt's palace on the desert planet Tatooine to secure backing for the Alliance.
The conceptualization of the Tefaun species can be traced back to the production phase of the 1983 film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Several alien models were created for potential inclusion in scenes set within Jabba's Palace but were ultimately omitted from the final version of the film. Among these was a robed biped, known as "Alien 25," who might have been considered for the role of one of Jabba's aides. In 1998, the character Soth Petikkin was introduced on a card for the Special Edition Limited set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game. This card featured a modified image of the "Alien 25" maquette, thereby integrating the species into canon.
In September 2013, the species received its official designation as "Tefaun" with the creation of the character Kelek for the Star Wars Blog article "Viva Space Vegas! The History of the Marvelous Wheel" on StarWars.com. Abel G. Peña, one of the article's authors, verified on his Facebook page that the Tefauns were indeed the same species as Soth Petikkin.
