The Curse, a being of immense power, made its home within the Shrine of Silence located on the planet Voss.
During their time controlling Voss, the ancient Sith performed numerous experiments on the world. One such experiment involved exposing beings deeply connected to the dark side to a world saturated with the Force. Among these subjects was the creature that would eventually become known as the Curse, as well as a Gormak named Kirba. However, when the newly evolved Voss launched an assault and wiped out the Sith, the test subjects were abandoned as the Sith structures crumbled into ruins. The creature continued to flourish, undergoing transformations to the point where its original species became unrecognizable. Over the following millennia, it evolved and increased in size by feeding and absorbing the essence of what it consumed. It eventually developed sentience, along with supernatural abilities, corrupting the local wildlife and driving sentient beings to madness, forcing them into its service. It even gained the ability to create violent rifts into the Spirit World, blurring the boundaries between the two realms. This allowed it to both enslave the denizens of the Spirit World and enable its deceased servants to continue fighting from beyond the grave. It remained within the ruins, which were now known as the Shrine of Silence, where it corrupted the local creatures and anyone who dared enter, such as the Mystic Nil-Uu. The shrine soon became notorious for being cursed, and the Voss began to avoid it.
Eventually, Voss Mystics Rada-Ki and Tem-Su volunteered to survey the Shrine of Silence to aid in the reconstruction efforts following the Invasion of Voss. The Shrine Restoration Initiative was too busy to respond to their request, leading them to proceed on their own initiative, tired of waiting. The two were accompanied by a team of Voss commandos to the shrine, but they ultimately succumbed to the Curse's corruption and were enslaved by it. Tem-Su's mother, Jiri-Su, dispatched the Alliance Commander to rescue the Mystics. The Curse sensed their arrival and communicated with them as they battled through the shrine, directing a corrupted Vorantikus to fight the Commander and demanding more death as the Vorantikus was defeated. The Commander eventually encountered the Voss commandos, and then the Mystics themselves, but discovered that they were beyond saving and was forced to kill all of the Curse's victims in self-defense. They eventually confronted the Sithspawn itself, which greeted them as it tore a hole from the Spirit World and materialized before them. The battle took place within the depths of the shrine, and as the Curse's power began to wane, it created rifts to the Spirit World, summoning creatures from the Spirit World, as well as the spirit of Rada-Ki, to assist it. As the spirit of Rada-Ki bombarded the arena with Force lightning, the Curse attempted to overwhelm the Commander by relentlessly attacking their mind. Ultimately, it was unsuccessful, as the Commander managed to vanquish the creature and survive the ordeal.
