Star Wars: The Hand of Thrawn Duology

Star Wars: The Hand of Thrawn Duology is a series of Legends novels penned by Timothy Zahn. The duology consists of two novels: Specter of the Past and [Vision of the Future] (/article/vision_of_the_future). Bantam Spectra published these novels in 1997 and 1998, respectively.

Taking place in 19 ABY, these two books delve into the ending stages of the Galactic Civil War. While some members of the Imperial Remnant, under the leadership of Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, seek to establish peace with the New Republic, another faction, helmed by Moff Vilim Disra and the seemingly resurrected Grand Admiral Thrawn, endeavors to destabilize the New Republic. Their strategy involves revealing the Caamas Document, which contains proof that the Bothans aided Emperor Palpatine in nearly wiping out the Caamasi people. Simultaneously, Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker are investigating a strange fortress located at the edge of the galaxy.

Development

Timothy Zahn mentioned that one stipulation for him to write these novels was that Luke Skywalker would propose to Mara Jade at the conclusion of the duology. This was revealed in the article "ComicScan: Luke-ing for Love in all the Wrong Places" within Star Wars Galaxy Collector 7.

Upon its release in Germany, Vision of the Future was divided into two parts, effectively turning it into a trilogy. The initial part retained the original English title, while the second part was named The Admiral's Wrath (German: Der Zorn des Admirals). Even the most current German editions are still published in two segments.
