The Menagerie

During the Republic Dark Age, a Sith dominion known as The Menagerie existed within the Grumani sector. This state was under the command of Malakite, a Sith Lord who despised technology and belonged to the influential Calimondra family of Sith. The Odionate, led by the rival Sith Lord Odion, attacked and seized Skarpos, a world belonging to the Menagerie, during the Second Charge Matrica. In response, Lord Malakite mustered a force with the intention of reclaiming Skarpos. During the Second Battle of Skarpos, the armies of the Menagerie, the Odionate, and the Daimanate were decimated by the Helm of Ieldis, an ancient Sith artifact capable of inducing murderous rage in sentient beings. Following the events that unfolded on Skarpos, Lord Malakite's forces united with other Sith warlords in an effort to thwart Lord Odion's ambition to use the Helm to obliterate the galaxy.

Politics and society

Similar to other Sith territories that held sway over the Grumani sector during the Republic Dark Age, the Menagerie's governance was dictated by the personal convictions and philosophy of its Sith Lord ruler, Malakite. Lord Malakite, who detested technology, became infamous throughout Sith Space for his "deviant" practice of employing Sith alchemy to transform sentient beings and animals into savage, red-skinned Sithspawn called "Mutates". These beings then bolstered his armed forces. These creatures, remnants of centuries of Sith experimentation, were reduced to vicious minions existing solely to fulfill their Sith Lord's commands. Malakite's military strength included "Mutates," winged Menagerie dragons, Night-Soarers, and a fleet of warships. Since the Sith Lord rejected modern technology in favor of primitive weaponry, Malakite adopted a strategy of overwhelming opponents with superior technology through sheer numbers. Besides engaging in conflicts with the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, Malakite also engaged in constant warfare with rival Sith warlords such as Odion and Ayanos Bactra. Due to substantial losses, Lord Malakite was compelled to initiate a large-scale breeding program.

History

Originating from the collapse of the Chagras Hegemony in 1040 BBY, the Menagerie emerged as one of the splinter Sith states. Under Lord Malakite's dominion, the Menagerie became notorious as a breeding ground for monstrous Sithspawn. In 1032 BBY, the Menagerie allied with the Odionate, the Daimanate, and the Sith Lord Lioko to invade and partition the Bactranate, a Sith territory governed by the Quermian Sith Lord Ayanos Bactra. Lord Malakite acted upon the request of Vilia Calimondra, the ruling matriarch of the Calimondra family, who deemed Lord Bactra to have outlived his usefulness to the Sith dynasty. During a bequest convened by Vilia Calimondra, Lord Malakite's territorial acquisitions in the former Bactranate were officially recognized.

In 1032 BBY, the forces of Sith Lord Odion invaded and ousted the Menagerie from Skarpos, a desolate desert planet. Odion sought the Helm of Ieldis, an ancient Sith artifact capable of inducing murderous rage in sentient beings. Unbeknownst to Odion, Kerra Holt, a Jedi Knight errant, had infiltrated his ranks. Shortly thereafter, Lord Malakite returned with an army to reclaim Skarpos. Following Malakite was Odion's younger sibling, the Sith Lord Daiman, who also desired to claim the Helm. During the subsequent three-way battle, Odion unleashed the Helm, driving the three armies into a homicidal frenzy. Following the Skarpos events, the Menagerie, prompted by Vilia Calimondra, joined forces with other Sith territories to prevent Lord Odion from using the Helm to annihilate the entire galaxy. Ultimately, Lord Odion was defeated by the Jedi Kerra and his second-in-command Beld Yulan.
