The name Odionate was bestowed upon one of the "successor states" to the Chagras Hegemony by Jedi Master Vannar Treece. This state emerged within a portion of the Grumani sector after the death of its leader, Chagras, in 1040 BBY. It derived its name from its ruler, the Sith Lord Odion, and his adherents were called Odionites. Following the Battle of Vanahame, the state's ruler met his end, leading to its disintegration and the distribution of its territories and assets among the Calimondra family.
Odion's dominion was structured around his dark beliefs, which emphasized death and destruction as a source of comfort. Its designation followed a pattern within the Sith territories of the Grumani sector, where the suffixes "-ate" or "nate" were appended to the Sith Lord's name. Consequently, Odion's followers were termed "Odionites," adhering to the custom of forming the demonym of their realms by employing the suffixes "-ite" or "-nite." Unlike the Daimanate, governed by Odion's younger sibling and rival, Daiman, the Odionate seemingly lacked a fixed capital, with its administrative center constantly relocating to accommodate Odion's military operations. His territory was also entangled in relentless internal conflicts over land and resources with various competing Sith Lords, including his estranged brother Daiman, Malakite, and Ayanos Bactra.
Given his bleak outlook, Odion dedicated minimal time and resources to the Odionate's economic well-being and the welfare of its inhabitants. After the Bactranate's annexation, Odion orchestrated the "voluntary deaths" of numerous bankers and accountants, deeming their professions obsolete within his realm. Under his governance, the populace was forced into slavery, serving in his armies and factories producing war materials. Odion also instituted a policy of imprisoning all children within his territory in cloisters, where they underwent indoctrination to become obedient laborers and soldiers. By 1032 BBY, there existed at least a dozen planet-sized orphanages across his domain, including the moon Vanahame. In contrast to the Daimanate, the Odionate lacked any widespread media, yet Odion still maintained several data centers on the foundry world of Jubalene.
His military forces comprised both Force-sensitive acolytes wielding the dark side, known as the Novitiates, and conventional infantry units such as the Lightning and Thunder Guards. While Odion's forces theoretically lacked formal ranks, he still relied on the expertise of seasoned military leaders like the former mercenary Beld Yulan. Due to his nihilistic policies rapidly depleting his armies' ranks, Odion employed Force-sensitive recruiters called Claimers to bolster his ranks. Odion also commanded a considerable military fleet, featuring a squadron of Odionate gunships, the mobile space station The Spike, and several kinetic corruptors. Odion's fixation on warfare and destruction further led to the creation of a massive siege tower known as the Death Spiral, capable of hyperspace travel and deploying ground troops, speeders, swoop bikes, and walkers.
Odion also believed that certain species possessed inherent aptitudes for specific tasks, leading him to exclusively utilize those species for those roles. For example, astrogation was handled by Givins, engineering by Verpine, and espionage by hired Bothans.
The Odionate came into existence after the demise of Lord Chagras in 1040 BBY, the ruler of the Sith state known as the Chagras Hegemony. Chagras's passing ignited a second wave of military clashes among the Sith Calimondra family, referred to as the Second Charge Matrica, which was openly and secretly supported by the family's matriarch, Vilia Calimondra. Odion and his estranged younger brother were the initial Calimondra Sith Lords to engage in conflict with one another. Over the subsequent eight years, Odion established his own principality centered around his nihilistic cult. During this period, Odion was embroiled in a series of deadlocked conflicts with rival Sith Lords, notably Daiman.
In 1032 BBY, Odionate forces invaded Chelloa, a Daimanate world producing the compound baradium used in munitions manufacturing. The campaign ended disastrously, with the Odionate suffering significant losses during the planetary invasion after Daiman deployed kinetic corruptors that caused the surface to erupt in flames. Odion himself sustained severe injuries in a duel with the Jedi Knight Kerra Holt, the sole survivor of Operation Influx. Following the Battle of Gazzari, Odion and Daiman briefly united after Vilia Calimondra encouraged them to invade the Bactranate, a territory governed by Lord Ayanos Bactra. The planets Jubalene and Jutrand were annexed during this campaign.
During a family bequest held that year, family matriarch Vilia Calimondra granted Odion control of Jutrand but transferred control of the corporation Industrial Heuristics and its subsidiary assets to Daimanate. While Odion accepted a shipment of two legions of Trandoshan slave warriors as compensation, tensions remained between the two brothers, who still sought each other's demise. During the Aquilaris campaign, the Odionate and other Sith states collaborated with the Hutt lord Zodoh in his campaign to invade the Daimanate by keeping Daiman's forces preoccupied at the frontlines.
Following Zodoh's defeat at the Battle of Darkknell, Daiman retaliated against Odion's support for Zodoh's invasion by aiding the Jedi Knight Kerra in infiltrating the Odionate, where she joined the Novitiates. After the annexation of the Bactranate, Odion resumed Project Pandemonium, a highly classified initiative to locate the Helm of Ieldis, an ancient Sith artifact capable of inducing homicidal rage in sentient beings. This endeavor led Odionate forces to invade both Skarpos and Sarrassia.
During the Second Battle of Skarpos, Odion acquired the Helm and employed it to annihilate three armies, including those of his rivals Daiman and Malakite, the ruler of the Menagerie. He then journeyed to Vanahame, intending to use the Helm to eliminate all his adversaries and seize control of the Grumani Sector and then the entire galaxy, by harnessing the negative emotions of the child captives within the planet-sized Cloister orphanage on Vanahame. However, during the Battle of Vanahame, he was thwarted by his former General Beld Yulan and Kerra, who liberated the child inmates. The subsequent surge of positive or light-sided emotions caused the Helm to overload, resulting in Odion's death. Subsequently, the Odionate dissolved, and its possessions were divided among the other members of the Calimondra family.
