Thorgeld I

Thorgeld I, alternatively known as simply Thorgeld, was a planet situated within the Core Worlds region. The subterranean city known as Fabrin on this planet housed the mansion belonging to Kvarn Mandel, the chief of Fabritech, Inc., and his family. This occurred during the Galactic Civil War, when the crew of the light freighter named Dorion Discus made a stop on Thorgeld I. Not long after the freighter departed, the Imperial Customs Frigate called the Assessor attempted to board the vessel for a customs inspection. However, the Dorion Discus ultimately managed to escape into hyperspace.

Description

Referred to as both Thorgeld I and Thorgeld, the terrestrial planet occupied the primary orbital position within the Thorgeld system. The system itself was located within the Northern Dependencies area of the Core Worlds.

History

During the period of the Galactic Civil War, the light freighter Dorion Discus made a visit to Thorgeld I with its crew. This crew included Roark Garnet, a smuggler; Tantos Dree, a bounty hunter; Jackson Farseeker, a retired Imperial captain; and Jill, Farseeker's granddaughter and Garnet's daughter. Shortly after their departure from the planet, the Dorion Discus was intercepted by the Imperial Customs Frigate Assessor, which instructed Garnet's freighter to prepare for a boarding inspection by customs officials.

Garnet, hoping to buy some time before initiating a hyperspace jump out of the system, contacted the Assessor and asserted that boarding the Dorion Discus was not permissible. He further bluffed, claiming that his starship was transporting crucial cargo destined for the Imperial base on Markon IV and that the necessary priority authorization for the shipment had been registered on Thorgeld I. However, the crew of the Assessor saw through Garnet's deception and responded with a warning shot aimed at his ship. Ultimately, the Dorion Discus engaged the frigate in combat above Thorgeld I before successfully escaping into hyperspace.

Locations

Fabrin was an underground city located on Thorgeld I, characterized by a complex network of corridors. The mansion of Kvarn Mandel, the leader of Fabritech, Inc., along with his family, was situated within Fabrin's corridors during the period between the Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Endor. Despite his frequent travels to his company's sector headquarters, Mandel made it a point to return to his home on Thorgeld I at least once a month.

Behind the scenes

The planet Thorgeld was initially mentioned in the 1987 rulebook for the inaugural edition of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games. The 1993 sourcebook Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, authored by Simon Smith and Eric S. Trautmann, provided the planet's complete name. In 2009, The Essential Atlas, a reference book, placed the Thorgeld system, and consequently Thorgeld I, within grid square L-9.
