Tomorrowland Starport

title: Tomorrowland Starport

The Star Tours travel agency utilized Tomorrowland Starport as their designated spaceport.

Configuration

A maintenance area in the starport.

The Tomorrowland Starport encompassed a sprawling infrastructure, organized into distinct zones: the Hangar, the Maintenance Bay, the Droidnostics Center, the Boarding Concourse, the Outer Rim Concourse, and the Baggage Claim area for arriving passengers.

Inclined pathways from the hangar provided access to the boarding zones, frequently traversing the sometimes chaotic droid repair sectors within the Droidnostics Center. Signage within the spaceport primarily employed the High Galactic alphabet, with occasional use of alternative alphabets and languages.

Aircraft Hangar

The Hangar possessed sufficient dimensions to accommodate and service a pair of StarSpeeder 3000s, incorporating elevators to facilitate maintenance procedures on the starships. Serving largely as a passenger reception area, the Hangar also featured numerous monitors, presenting flight details such as destinations to and arrivals from various vacation planets, alongside weather forecasts for each planet.

The Spacecap Droid F-25-OJSx was tasked with loading checked baggage onto the conveyor system, with the luggage adorned with various unique decals. A ventilation unit was also located in the Hangar, with F-22-RGKx assigned to its upkeep.

Repair and Service Bay

During their tenure with Star Tours in 4 ABY, the Maintenance Bay served as the workspace for C-3PO and R2-D2, where they maintained StarSpeeders. The bay featured a status display comprising 105 liquid crystal panels, each measuring 30x30 centimeters. It promoted destinations like Hoth, Endor, and Tatooine. It also offered announcement settings in three languages, including Ewokese.

The control station within the bay facilitated the management of operations throughout the starport, staffed by a minimum of two Mon Calamari supervisors. Spark jars, the fuel source for the StarSpeeder 3000, were positioned in the central area of the maintenance bay.

Droid Maintenance Hub

The Droidnostics Center served as the dispatch point for droids requiring repairs before returning to service, and was primarily automated. G2-4T held the position of droid foreman. Max-W 100 and G2-9T were employed in the area, although the latter was prone to idleness, while Max-W 100 was committed to his duties. Sector 2 was at least one part of the center.

Passenger Embarkation Area

The Boarding Concourse was among the limited locations where human Star Tours personnel were visible. Functioning as the final checkpoint before boarding a StarSpeeder 3000, it encompassed six boarding terminals. One concourse had all six gates dedicated to Endor as part of the Endor Express. Flight monitors also provided real-time updates on StarSpeeder 3000 status and departure times through onboard cameras.

Luggage Retrieval Zone

The Baggage Claim area was equipped with a network of baggage conveyors. PanaRobo droids P-6 and S-4 conducted inspections of incoming astrocultural freight under the supervision of an R2 unit, employing disinfectant spray and a flyswatter. Nearby, the Tourscan display screen, narrated by Dan Android, presented advertisements for various vacation packages. The area also featured a Star*Link booth, frequently utilized by F-29-PSKx to contact his girlfriend due to feelings of homesickness.

Historical Context

Subsequent to the Battle of Endor by several months, droid pilot RX-24's near disastrous flight destined for the forest moon both initiated and concluded at this spaceport. The station also housed fuel trucks which ST-45, RX-24's assigned StarSpeeder 3000, nearly collided with upon its return to the spaceport.

Behind the Production

Schematics of Tokyo's Tomorrowland Starport

The designation "Tomorrowland Starport" was exclusively employed within the queue areas of Star Tours attractions at Disneyland in California and Tokyo Disneyland, owing to their locations within the Tomorrowland sections of those parks, with the Tokyo iteration forming a component of the Tomorrowland Astrozone expansion. It was not utilized at Disney's Hollywood Studios or Disneyland Paris.

Despite being nominally the same starport, the attraction's physical positioning differs across each park. Both the Hangar and Baggage Claim zones are incorporated solely into the queue and offloading areas at Tokyo Disneyland. Prior to entering the Maintenance Bay at the Disneyland ride in California, visitors pass a security post manned by a Mon Calamari. At the same park, the PeopleMover attraction, which offered guests a tour of Tomorrowland, featured a segment traversing the ride building with a view of the queue, until its closure in 1995. An announcement by C-3PO on that ride referred to Tomorrowland "Spaceport" rather than "Starport."
