Tybroic was the historical language spoken by the Stybla family of the Chiss Ascendancy. By the Clone Wars era, this language had fallen out of common daily usage; however, it remained a part of Stybla rituals. During one of these ceremonies, which occurred on the world Sposia around 19 BBY, the Chiss Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuru, whose core name was "Thrawn," received the Tybroic title odo. This title denoted that he was a highly respected guardian or protector.
The language of Tybroic was initially introduced, though without a specific name, in the 2017 book Thrawn. This novel marked the beginning of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: Thrawn series. The language was subsequently given the name Tybroic in the flashbacks of the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, which served as the concluding volume in Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.
