Zenuas 33 Umbaran starfighter

The Zenuas 33 Umbaran starfighter, a product of Ghost Armaments, represented a pinnacle of starfighter technology. Its cockpit featured advanced ray shielding, enveloping the pilot within a responsive, touch-sensitive holographic interface. It saw extensive action during the Battle of Umbara, a key engagement in the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Umbarans, who aligned themselves with the Separatist Alliance.

Description

Manufactured by Ghost Armaments, the Zenuas 33 Umbaran starfighter was a remarkably potent and versatile craft utilized by the Umbaran Militia. Its variable geometry spaceframe typically assumed a triangular configuration during standard flight. This unique design enabled the starfighter to stand vertically on its wingtips or be stored on wall-mounted racks within hangars, such as those found inside the Umbaran airbase.

Instead of a conventional cockpit, the pilot was seated in a ray shielded command chair surrounded by holographic displays and controls that responded to touch, with the chair making use of repulsorlifts. The control system relied on highly sensitive hand gestures, a significant departure from standard starfighter interfaces, making it challenging for inexperienced pilots to master. Its high maneuverability allowed for near-instantaneous changes in orientation. Armed with chin-mounted electromagnetic plasma cannons and wing-mounted missile pods, the Umbaran starfighter possessed considerable firepower. A single Umbaran Technician could detach these wing-mounted missile pods.

These starfighters operated almost silently in flight mode, providing a tactical advantage, and lacked a hyperdrive. Furthermore, these starfighters were among the few weapons capable of effectively engaging the Umbaran mobile heavy cannon.

History

When the Clone Wars engulfed Umbara, the Umbaran Militia deployed its distinctive arsenal, including the Zenuas 33, as its primary source of aerial support against the clone troopers of the Galactic Republic.

During the battle, clone troopers "Hardcase" and CT-5555 "Fives" defied orders from Jedi General Pong Krell and infiltrated the Umbaran airbase to commandeer two Umbaran fighters. They then employed these fighters to rescue their fellow troopers from the devastating fire of Umbaran mobile heavy cannons. Hardcase, Fives, and CT-5597 "Jesse" subsequently disobeyed orders again, utilizing these ships to destroy a Separatist supply ship.

Behind the scenes

The Umbaran starfighters made their debut in "Darkness on Umbara," which was the seventh episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' fourth season. The design of this starship drew inspiration from the cervical vertebra belonging to the dinosaur species Apatosaurus.
