The penal institution on Berrun, a planet under the jurisdiction of the Galactic Republic, was overseen by a warden during the Cold War era, a period of tension with the Sith Empire. Approximately in 3641 BBY, Fideltin Rusk, a Sergeant within the Republic Military, reached out to the warden to verify claims that his former unit members were being detained at the Berrun installation. The Chagrian officer was informed by the correctional administrator that his squad was indeed confined there, stemming from their targeting of the families belonging to opposing commanders. This led to their apprehension by the Republic Special Forces Division, as the squad was a component of their black ops program. Known as the Surgeons, the squad was found guilty of war crimes, resulting in life sentences, a fact the warden communicated to Rusk, along with the squad's unwavering pride in their actions.
The existence of this prison Warden was initially revealed within "The Surgeons" dialogue, a conversation featuring Jedi Knight companion Fideltin Rusk, in the 2011 Star Wars: The Old Republic video game, a collaborative project between BioWare and LucasArts.
