A Gungan warrior was a member of Sabé's team, the latter being a former handmaiden who served Queen Padmé Amidala. Following Amidala's death, Sabé and her soldiers became rebels fighting against the Galactic Empire, having been present with Sabé at her funeral. In an effort to investigate Amidala's passing, Sabé's group infiltrated her old apartment located on Coruscant to secure security footage, after which they traveled to a base situated on Vendaxa. During their time on Vendaxa, the native Vendaxan land squid launched an assault on the complex, causing the deaths of several members of the crew. The Gungan cautioned Sabé, urging her to evacuate, but was subsequently killed by one of the creatures. Shortly after the team's demise, Darth Vader, the Sith Lord who was also investigating the circumstances surrounding Amidala's death, arrived at the Vendaxa complex and accurately identified Sabé. Sabé consented to collaborate with Vader, but insisted that the forensics droid ZED-6-7 assist her in burying the deceased soldiers before they departed.
The Gungan made their initial appearance in the comic Darth Vader (2020) 1, which was penned by Greg Pak, with illustrations by Raffaele Ienco, and published by Marvel Comics on February 5, 2020. In the second issue, which was also written by Pak and released on March 11, 2020, a fan's letter questioned whether the Gungan featured in Darth Vader 1 was Jar Jar Binks, a Gungan who debuted in the 1999 movie Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace; however, Pak refuted any link between the two characters.
