Unidentified majordomo (Jerec)

A Human male filled the role of majordomo for the Dark Jedi Jerec during the latter's brief tenure as governor of the moon Sulon. Following Jerec's departure, the majordomo remained at Jerec's Sulon headquarters, continuing to serve subsequent masters. When the droid information broker 8t88 arrived at the tower, the majordomo, deeming it an appropriate place for a presumptuous droid, directed 8t88 to a coat room, presenting it as a VIP suite. However, 8t88 detected the majordomo's deception and, after scolding him, killed the Human by snapping his neck. The remaining staff were noticeably invigorated by the majordomo's demise, as observed by 8t88.

Biography

Imperial servant

During the Galactic Civil War period, a Human male worked as a majordomo for Dark Jedi Jerec, an Inquisitor within the Galactic Empire, during Jerec's short term as governor of the moon Sulon around 0 BBY. Stationed at the Sulon Government House, also known as the Dark Palace, the majordomo stayed on after Jerec left, serving the subsequent leaders who took up residence there. The majordomo, becoming quite decadent, developed a habit of boasting about his service to the house's former masters.

An uppity droid in its place

The Dark Palace on Sulon

In 5 ABY, the droid information broker 8t88, then in Jerec's service, took up residence at the house while engaged in a project for the Dark Jedi. Disliking the droid, the majordomo attempted to deceive 8t88 by assigning him a coat room as a VIP guest suite, hoping to impress the other staff. Discovering that his room connected to the palace's ballroom, 8t88 realized the deception. Annoyed by this, 8t88 instructed his henchman Rol to locate the majordomo. Upon being summoned, the majordomo deliberately delayed his response, ensuring he preceded Rol into 8t88's "guest suite," entering with a barely concealed smile. 8t88 inquired innocently about the house's history, starting with the alleged suite. Initially, the majordomo began to describe the entire structure's history before 8t88 redirected him to focus solely on the room. Before the majordomo could answer, 8t88 pointed out the room's connection to the ballroom—an observation he found peculiar—and requested to know the room's original purpose, specifically its "pedigree."

The majordomo briefly considered confessing, but decided that bluffing would be less humiliating. Therefore, he insisted that the coat room was indeed a VIP suite, assigned to 8t88 due to the droid's status and the fact that it was the only room large enough to accommodate 8t88's pet hornagaunt Grendel. When 8t88 asked him to come closer, the majordomo believed his deception had worked. However, as soon as he was within reach, 8t88 grabbed the majordomo's robes, pulling him face to face, and revealed that he was aware of the lie. 8t88 then wrapped his fingers around the majordomo's neck, causing him to urinate in fear, as the man begged for mercy and promised to make amends. 8t88 rejected this, crushing the majordomo's facial bones with his robotic hand, leading to screaming, fainting, and ultimately death. Afterwards, Grendel consumed the majordomo's body.

The majordomo's fate served as an example to the remaining staff, who then served the droid with greater diligence, resulting in 8t88 being moved to a more luxurious study.

Personality and traits

The Human majordomo was known for his boastful nature regarding his service to the Dark Palace's resident governors. He held a high opinion of himself, evident in his delayed response to 8t88's summons and his act of preceding Rol into 8t88's chamber. Believing he could impress the Palace staff by assigning 8t88 to a coat room, he grew nervous when he suspected 8t88 had uncovered the deception and opted to bluff, considering it less embarrassing than admitting the truth. The majordomo spoke to 8t88 with condescension, a manner that unsettled Rol.

When 8t88 made his displeasure with the majordomo's deceit clear, the man lost control of his bladder and pleaded for 8t88 to allow him to make amends. However, 8t88 dismissed this as impossible, claiming the majordomo had a "malfunction" in his brain. Additionally, 8t88 believed the majordomo harbored prejudice against droids.

At the time of his death, the majordomo, who had light skin, was wearing a flowing red robe. He was bald, with black eyebrows and brown eyes.

Behind the scenes

The unnamed majordomo debuted in the novella Dark Forces: Rebel Agent, authored by William C. Dietz and published in 1998. The character was depicted in an illustration by artist Ezra Tucker within the novella (though the illustration appears a few pages after his initial appearance in the story). He later featured in the novella's full cast audio drama, voiced by Bob Otto. The novella and audio drama scenes share many similarities, with the most significant difference being the novella's ambiguity regarding 8t88's quarters, only mentioning its adjacency to a ballroom. The audio drama clarifies that the room was explicitly a coatroom through altered dialogue. Furthermore, in the novella, Rol personally retrieves the majordomo, whereas in the audio drama, he merely sends for him. Finally, the audio drama incorporated additional dialogue to compensate for the absence of the novella's written prose. This article considers the novella as the authoritative account of events.
