Back in 5 ABY, a year, 8t88, a droid information broker, employed a Human male bodyguard named Rol. When 8t88 conducted official Galactic Empire business at the Barons Hed government building located on the moon Sulon, Rol provided security. There was an occasion when Rol assisted in attaching a new arm to 8t88. However, Rol's assistance only made 8t88 angry, as he couldn't seem to find the correct implement for the task.
Later, Rol brought the government house's deceitful majordomo to 8t88 and witnessed the droid's execution of the man. The majordomo had slighted 8t88 by lodging him and his subordinates in a coat room instead of a luxurious VIP suite. Rol, along with his fellow bodyguards Hontho and Trox, met their deaths when Kyle Katarn, who sought to eliminate 8t88, arrived.

During the year of 5 ABY, Rol, a Human male bodyguard, was in the service of 8t88, a droid information broker of the Model 88-series, alongside his fellow bodyguards and servants Hontho and Trox. Rol and his companions accompanied 8t88 while he was working for the Galactic Empire on the moon of Sulon, operating from the Sulon Government House. The house's majordomo placed 8t88 and his employees in a coatroom connected to a ballroom, which 8t88 later perceived as a sign of anti-droid prejudice.
Before commencing work on the Empire's assignment, 8t88 made the decision to replace an arm that he had previously lost on the moon of Nar Shaddaa during a shootout with Kyle Katarn, whom 8t88 had attempted to deceive. 8t88 requested Rol's assistance in installing the new arm, and at one point, he asked Rol to provide him with a tuning stylus. However, Rol, unable to differentiate between a tuning stylus and a testing probe, handed 8t88 the latter. 8t88, enraged, threw the testing probe back at Rol, retrieved the correct instrument, and questioned how a biological being like Rol could even exist.
It became apparent to 8t88 that his supposed VIP suite was, in fact, a coatroom. Once 8t88's arm was fully installed, he summoned the majordomo, which Rol and the other henchmen considered to be one of his eccentricities. Rol located the majordomo, who was slow to respond to Rol's summons. When the majordomo finally arrived, he ascended the stairs leading to 8t88's quarters ahead of Rol, and Rol felt uneasy upon hearing the man's condescending tone. The man initially attempted to talk his way out of the situation, and the droid requested that he approach closer to better hear him; Rol exchanged glances with Hontho, knowing that 8t88's amplifiers could detect the faintest sound from a distance. As the majordomo shuffled forward, he was seized by the droid and urinated, causing Rol and Trox to wrinkle their noses. Immediately thereafter, 8t88 executed the man. Rol was about to remove the majordomo's body from the room when 8t88 decided to instead feed it to his pet hornagaunt named Grendel.
Later, Rol, Trox, and Hontho encountered Kyle Katarn, who had pursued 8t88 from Nar Shaddaa. Katarn killed all three bodyguards as he advanced through the Government House. When Katarn finally confronted 8t88, the droid called for his bodyguards, only to be informed by Katarn that he had eliminated them.
Rol, a Human male, felt ill at ease around his droid superior and spoke hesitantly when addressed by him. Rol was subjected to 8t88's abuse simply because he was a biological being. 8t88 also called Rol an idiot for his inability to identify a tuning stylus. However, when 8t88 demanded that Rol retrieve the Government House's majordomo, Rol dismissed the reason for the demand as one of 8t88's eccentricities. Rol became uneasy when the majordomo first appeared before 8t88 and wrinkled his nose at the smell of the majordomo's urine as it formed a puddle at the man's feet as he died.
Rol's first appearance was in the 1998 novella titled Dark Forces: Rebel Agent, authored by science-fiction writer William C. Dietz. Rol is referred to as a male henchman, and while some events are depicted from his perspective, he has no spoken lines in the novella.
In the audio adaption of the novella, an unnamed servant with a distinctly feminine voice assumes some of Rol's role. She is depicted assisting 8t88 with his repairs, speaking with a trembling voice, and failing to retrieve the correct tool, as Rol does in the novella. It is mentioned that the servant had summoned the majordomo, who then arrived, unlike Rol, who left the room to fetch him. After killing the majordomo, the droid instructs the servant to remind whoever is in charge of his importance, and he tells her to dispose of the body before deciding that it should be fed to Grendel. The voice actress who played the servant in the audio drama was not credited.
Rol's name, along with the names of the other henchmen, are mentioned later in the audio drama when 8t88 calls for them, only to be informed by Kyle of their fate, as in the novella.
This article treats Rol as a male but incorporates details from the audio drama's female servant.
In the novella, Kyle states that "Rol and his friends are permanently indisposed," implying that he had killed them. However, in the audio drama, he is more ambiguous, saying, "I am afraid they will not be joining us for the rest of their lives," suggesting that he had somehow disabled them but that they were still alive.
