A mask found its way into the possession of Dok-Ondar, an Ithorian collector. He displayed it on a wall within his shop, Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities, situated in Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. Rumor had it that the mask carried a curse and was once owned by a man who achieved considerable power and influence. As the tale goes, the wearer of the mask was ultimately killed by his ally, after which it eventually became part of Dok-Ondar's collection. Despite Dok-Ondar's warnings, the ambassador Slokin purchased the mask. Upon wearing it, Slokin experienced visions of the original wearer's actions. Slokin then employed the mask wearer's strategies to amass his own power, only to meet a similar fate, being killed by his own ally. The mask was then returned to Dok-Ondar, who put it back on display in his store.

The mask initially served as a decorative element within the Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities shop in the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge themed area. This area was inaugurated for visitors at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.
The store's employees often provide two distinct interpretations of the mask's origin. Some identify it as belonging to a Sith acolyte, while others suggest it is the mask of Darth Momin, despite its dissimilar appearance to Momin's actual mask. The short story titled "Buyer Beware" does not offer a definitive explanation, only stating that the mask is ancient and possesses a sinister power.
Visually, the mask bears resemblance to a Sith Warrior's mask featured in Hope, a cinematic trailer promoting the Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, which was unveiled on June 14, 2010.
