After successfully retrieving the program, the technician managed to bring a portion of the Trade Federation Droid Army back online.

Biography

The technician (bottom left) with the task force

In 32 BBY, during the Trade Federation's invasion of the planet Naboo, a Neimoidian male served as a technician. This particular technician was a member of a specialized unit that included five droidekas and a bio cannon. Their assignment was to recover a droid control program that the Naboo had stolen and moved to a Research Center located near the city of Harte Secur. The team traveled in a Neimoidian transport to a camp where battle droids were inactive due to the program's loss, and there they encountered OOM-9, a B1-series battle droid.

Nute Gunray, the Trade Federation Viceroy, instructed OOM-9 to secure the program and protect the technician. The Neimoidian was placed inside OOM-9's Heavy Armored Assault Tank for safety as the droids battled through Royal Naboo Security Forces to reach the research facility. Once they arrived, the technician obtained the program, and the group returned to the camp. There, the Neimoidian reactivated the droids. The technician then stayed in the camp's command center while the Droid Army destroyed Harte Secur.

The Neimoidian technician's features included red eyes and greenish mottled skin.

Skills and abilities

The technician possessed the skill to reactivate a portion of the Trade Federation Droid Army after regaining possession of the droid control program.

Equipment

The Neimoidian was dressed in blue and gray robes, complemented by a dark blue hat.

Behind the scenes

The Prima Games' strategy guide by Steven L. Kent, which was released on November 7, 2001 for the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, released on November 11, 2001, provided the first mention of the Neimoidian technician. He is featured in the Trade Federation campaign's second level, titled "Behind the Lines." If the technician is lost, the player automatically loses the level, even if they have already secured the program.

The strategy guide draws a comparison between the technician and the Jedi characters in the game, noting that the technician is the only unit capable of moving the droid control program, similar to how only Jedi and Sith can move holocrons. The guide also suggests garrisoning the technician within OOM-9's AAT, which enables the droid control program to be collected by simply moving the AAT over it. In the level, if the player positions the technician near the program outside of the AAT, the program vanishes and only reappears once the technician returns to the camp.
