This male Sauvax, who belonged to the male gender, occupied the position of tevelor, an office that can be loosely translated as the headman or representative, within his kuuvan, which can be understood as community. As a representative, he had knowledge of Galactic Basic Standard, a language largely unknown to the Sauvax—even though the tevelor's understanding of the language was not complete.
His status as leader was evident through the decorative items made from materials like driftwood, shells, and coral adorning his clothing. Additionally, he possessed the largest dwelling in the village, a group of Sauvax acting as bodyguards, and the respect from everyone within his community.
A Dark Side Adept identified as Profex Rynalla secretly journeyed to Leritor and launched an assault on a Sauvax kuuvan situated to the north of this tevelor's kuuvan. Upon discovering this, the tevelor wrongly attributed the attack to the Human inhabitants of Leritor, remaining ignorant of Rynalla's involvement. The tevelor gathered all of his warriors and proceeded to demand explanations from the Humans. Being a peaceful person from a peaceful people, the tevelor did not attack the first Human community he met. Instead, the warriors surrounded the combine-reaper Gevion and the tevelor requested a personal discussion with a Human representative. However, he felt certain that the Human settlers had brutally attacked the kuuvan, potentially as part of a scheme to eliminate the Sauvax species.
The crew of the Gevion had been similarly deceived by Rynalla into thinking that the Sauvax had initiated unprovoked attacks on combine-reapers—a notion foreign to the tevelor's understanding and considered improbable—leading them to be wary and hesitant to send an envoy due to the risk of assassination. The Humans attempted to communicate from within the combine-reaper, but the tevelor perceived this as an insult: The Humans were suggesting the Sauvax were not worthy of a face-to-face conversation.
Subsequently, the Gevion captain issued a distress signal, prompting a response from nearby offworlders. These newcomers proposed to act as mediators between the conflicting parties. The tevelor initially greeted them with threats, as they had unknowingly violated another cultural norm, but he eventually calmed and consented to end the blockade in exchange for the assurance of further investigation.
