Wookiee settlers erected a station on the satellite Alaris Prime between the years of 39 BBY and 36 BBY amidst a colonial conflict against the Trade Federation. Its primary function was to provide a training ground for bowcaster troopers in their fight against the Trade Federation Droid Army. The station also benefited from plentiful food resources, which were gathered to sustain the Wookiee forces. When the settlement's commander, Attichitcuk, suffered severe injuries at the hands of the Trade Federation's combat droids, his offspring, Chewbacca, spearheaded a troopers party from the station on a recovery operation. Following the party's return to the station with Attichitcuk, the Trade Federation dispatched three droidekas in a failed assault.
During the settlement phase of Alaris Prime, a satellite orbiting the planet Alaris within the Kashyyyk system, Wookiee laborers built a station—one of several on the satellite—bordered by a river that flowed around the northern and eastern perimeters of the locale. The station was also situated near a forest and had abundant sources of food, including muja fruit bushes; wild fauna like nerfs and mynocks; and fish from the river.
Initially, the station comprised four buildings—a command center, a troop center for training bowcaster troopers, a prefab shelter to accommodate the Wookiees, and a power core to supply energy to each structure. Following recommendations from Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, additional buildings were erected at the station, including a pair of food processing centers in proximity to the muja fruit bushes, several farms, an animal nursery, and sufficient prefab shelters to house a minimum of eighteen Wookiees. Two markers were positioned at the north-western edge of the station as a rallying point for the Wookiee troops.
The station was constructed between the years of 39 BBY and 36 BBY, during the settlement of Alaris Prime by a group of Wookiees. Following a confrontation with the Trade Federation Droid Army, which aimed to unlawfully claim the satellite, the Wookiees' advisor, Qui-Gon Jinn, felt compelled to assist in training more soldiers in anticipation of further hostilities. While the settlement's leader, Chieftain Attichitcuk, departed to investigate the Trade Federation's operations, Jinn initiated the guidance of a group of eight Wookiees at the station. These included four workers, three bowcaster troopers, and Attichitcuk's son, Chewbacca. Their objectives were to train a larger number of soldiers for defense and elevate the technology level of the settlers.
Jinn initially demonstrated to the Wookiees how to reinforce the armor of their workers, before instructing them to gather muja fruit from the nearby bushes. The workers constructed a food processing center in close proximity to the bushes to store food more efficiently, which also facilitated the creation of farms. While exploring the station's surroundings, one of the bowcaster troopers discovered a herd of nerfs to the south. In response, Jinn directed a worker to construct an animal nursery to utilize the creatures. A second food processing center was also built near another crop of fruit bushes to the southwest after the initial ones were picked dry.
Upon reaching a specific food threshold, the Wookiees achieved advancements in their technology, and around this time Attichitcuk was ambushed and nearly perished at the hands of B1-series battle droids belonging to the Trade Federation. Jinn detected the chieftain's survival through the Force and instructed the Wookiees to assemble a medical droid at the station's command center in preparation for a rescue mission.
Once up to ten bowcaster troopers were prepared, equipped with stronger armor as a consequence of the enhanced technology level, Chewbacca assembled them and the medical droid at the station's markers and embarked to rescue Attichitcuk. During their absence, at least two additional bowcaster troopers were trained at the station's troop center in anticipation of any further Trade Federation assaults. As Chewbacca's party returned to the station with Attichitcuk, the supplementary troopers ventured out to meet them, assisting in the destruction of a group of battle droids. At the station, Attichitcuk was promptly sent to the command center to recuperate, and shortly thereafter the Trade Federation droid DRN-38 dispatched three droidekas to attack the station, which were defeated by the Wookiees.
The Wookiee station was initially referenced in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent,—released on November 7, 2001—before its appearance in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which launched on November 11, 2001. It is featured in the fourth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, titled "Researching Technology."
The station commences with only four buildings, and the player is restricted to adding additional power cores, prefab shelters, food processing centers, animal nurseries, and troop centers. Any combination of two of these buildings, along with 500 units of food, is required before the player's technology level can be upgraded, a necessity for progressing through the game.
