Valarian was a crime lady of the Whiphid species, and a female, who conducted her illicit activities on the desert planet of Tatooine. She was the primary rival of Jabba Desilijic Tiure, the Hutt kingpin. Valarian, at some point, directed J'Quille, her Whiphid lover, to secretly enter Jabba's palace in order to spy for her. Following Jabba's death, Valarian put a bounty on J'Quille because he did not kill Jabba, which forced the Whiphid to stay on Tatooine and become a member of the B'omarr Order.
The first mention of Valarian within Star Wars canon occurred in the 2016 reference book titled Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded; however, she was mentioned previously in the non-canon video game Disney Infinity 3.0 from 2015. Valarian was initially conceptualized for the Star Wars Legends sourcebook Galaxy Guide 7: Mos Eisley for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
In Disney Infinity 3.0, players are given a side quest to locate hidden items on Tatooine and deliver them to Jabba. One of these items is an R-series astromech droid that supposedly holds information regarding the plots of Lady Valarian, according to the Hutt. Jabba is pleased to receive this droid and rewards the player for giving him an advantage against his adversary.
