During the era of the Galactic Civil War, a Trandoshan artist named Vanvi Hotne, who was male, made his home. Around 1 ABY, Hotbe could be found in the Outer Rim city of Mos Eisley on the world of Tatooine. It was there that he produced four artistic pieces: Blumbush, Boffa Plant, Mattberry Plant, and Ronka Plant. These paintings were later showcased in the Museum of Tatooine by the curator, Lilas Dinhint.
Vanvi Hotne, a male Trandoshan, existed during the time of the Galactic Civil War, a significant conflict between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Throughout his early years, Hotne encountered a diverse array of plants during his travels. These botanical encounters would eventually inspire him to pursue a career as an artist, faithfully capturing their likeness in his work. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, approximately 1 ABY, Hotne established his workspace in a small plaza adjacent to the Lucky Despot hotel and casino in Mos Eisley, a city located on the Outer Rim Territories planet of Tatooine. Plagued by overdue rent, Hotne felt anxious about the prospect of debt collectors approaching him. Possessing limited credits, he aimed to create paintings to sustain himself. During his time in Mos Eisley, he crafted four such paintings, which he named Blumbush, Boffa Plant, Mattberry Plant, and Ronka Plant.
Simultaneously, in Tatooine's Imperial capital of Bestine, curator Lilas Dinhint managed the Museum of Tatooine, the planet's sole museum. Dinhint sought to enrich the museum's offerings by introducing novel exhibits for visitors. Consequently, the museum identified a select group of artists to potentially feature their artwork in Bestine. Vanvi Hotne was among those considered, along with Giaal Itotr, Klepa Laeel, Kahfr Oladi, Boulo Siesi, and Kolka Zteht. However, to have his paintings displayed in Bestine, Hotne needed sufficient votes to surpass his fellow artists. Lilas Dinhint organized a Bestine Museum art competition every thirty days, with a fifteen-day interval for individuals to vote for their preferred artist.
Throughout his artistic journey, Hotne received attention from numerous spacers, many of whom cast their votes in his favor. Hotne triumphed in the art competitions on several occasions, granting him the opportunity to showcase his paintings in Bestine's museum for a thirty-day period. During the exhibition of his paintings, the unscrupulous curator Dinhint offered schematics of the artworks in return for a "modest donation" of 48,000 credits. This facilitated the mass production of copies of Hotne's paintings by architecturally-inclined furniture makers and traders, enabling them to be purchased, collected, or displayed for personal enjoyment. With his paintings now exhibited in Bestine, Hotne anticipated an imminent financial breakthrough, believing he would finally be able to settle his debts.
Vanvi Hotne possessed green skin and eyes of the same hue. In his younger years, Hotne was an explorer who traversed the galaxy, admiring its diverse array of plant life. In his later years, Hotne was constantly worried about debt collectors, since he was behind on his rent payments. Hotne was inclined to act with hostility towards anyone who came near him, assuming that they were debt collectors. However, once his paintings were on display in Bestine, his worries subsided, as he was convinced that his new success would put an end to his money problems.
Vanvi Hotne appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011. He was introduced to the game on February 11, 2004 as part of Publish 6 The Imperial Crackdown. The update included a new Bestine Museum event, where players could vote for various NPC artists to have one of their paintings displayed in the museum. Vanvi Hotne was one of the artists, and players who voted for him had to first speak with him in Mos Eisley. If Hotne received the most votes, one of his paintings, either Blumbush, Boffa Plant, Mattberry Plant, or Ronka Plant, would be displayed for approximately one month, and players could purchase schematics of the paintings for 48,000 credits during a two week period. The winning artist depended on the player's input, but because the competitions were monthly, this article assumes 100% game completion, and that Vanvi Hotne was able to display all of his paintings on at least a few occasions.
