Ventress's lightsaber

Following the theft of her previous lightsabers by Padawan [Barriss Offee](/article/barriss_offee], the bounty hunter Asajj Ventress procured a lightsaber with a yellow blade from the black market at some time. She perceived this new weapon as a means of severing her connection to her past as the apprentice of Count Dooku, as it represented her final tangible link to that era. Ventress continued to wield this lightsaber throughout her career as a bounty hunter. After her presumed demise on Christophsis, her lightsaber was interred with her on Dathomir.

The weapon featured a standard, cylindrical hilt and produced a blade of yellow-colored plasma. During the Imperial Era, Ventress also utilized a yellow lightsaber that was characterized by its curved hilt design.

Design

Ventress's unique lightsaber projected a yellow blade originating from a conventionally shaped, cylindrical hilt. The power cell was situated at the hilt's base, beneath a textured grip. The activation switch was positioned directly above the grill that encompassed the majority of the hilt, extending up to the blade emitter.

The lightsaber's base incorporated a standard, ridged grip and a fully enclosed section, designed to safeguard the power cell. Approximately three-fifths of the hilt consisted of an upper portion constructed from perforated metal, which exposed the internal mechanisms of the blade. Despite this design, the weapon did not appear to be susceptible to damage from moisture. The glowing core of the lightsaber conveyed a sense of both vulnerability and resilience, underscoring its status as a potent weapon. In this way, the lightsaber mirrored Ventress's own psychological state.

Behind the scenes

Will Nichols conceived Ventress's lightsaber for the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It was originally planned to feature in eight episodes with Ventress and Quinlan Vos. However, the show's cancellation led to the story's adaptation into the novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden. In 2016, Nichols shared the lightsaber's concept design in his online portfolio.

The lightsaber's original design was later repurposed in the revived Season 7 of The Clone Wars, where it was incorporated as one half of Maul's lightsaber.
