Vill was a clone replicated from the genetic material of the late bounty hunter Jango Fett. Initially serving as a clone trooper within the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars, Vill transitioned into one of the initial stormtroopers following the transformation of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire. Programmed for unwavering obedience, Vill was a compliant soldier, executing commands without regard for morality or ethics.
One month following Emperor Palpatine's proclamation of a New Order, Vill held the position of commander over a regiment of stormtroopers belonging to the 501st Legion, an elite group of clone soldiers reporting directly to the Sith Lord Darth Vader. Vill and his regiment were assigned a mission to New Plympto with the directive to eliminate the remaining Separatist holdouts.
In 19 BBY, one month after Emperor Palpatine dissolved the Galactic Republic to establish the Galactic Empire, Vill was among the millions of former clone troopers who continued their service as a stormtrooper. At that point, he was a regiment commander within the distinguished 501st Legion, thereby directly reporting to the Emperor's second-in-command, the Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Simultaneously, the Imperial conquest of New Plympto advanced slowly and with considerable difficulty. The indigenous Nosaurians, former members of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, formed their own resistance group following the conclusion of the Clone Wars. Ironically, they gained a new ally in a former adversary. General Dass Jennir, a Jedi who survived Order 66, joined the Nosaurians in their fight against the Empire.
Due to the Nosaurians' persistent rebellion, Emperor Palpatine deployed a stormtrooper regiment from the 501st Legion, led by Commander Vill, to New Plympto with orders to secure Imperial control over the planet by exterminating the rebels. Upon their arrival, Vill and his clone stormtroopers gradually pushed the Nosaurians back, ultimately forcing the rebels to make a final stand at Half-Axe Pass.
The Battle of Half-Axes Pass resulted in a complete slaughter, with the Nosaurian army suffering near-total annihilation. Those who surrendered after the battle were summarily executed by the 501st Legion. Their families were captured, and, under the Emperor's orders, Commander Vill had them processed into the slave market on Orvax IV. Subsequently, the clone commander reported the details of the battle to Darth Vader via holocomm.
As the 501st prepared to leave the conquered planet of New Plympto, Commander Vill returned to Vader's flagship, the Imperator-class Star Destroyer Exactor. He reported directly to Commander Appo, Vader's second-in-command within the 501st Legion, who sought information about an infiltration incident that occurred after the battle. Vill, unaware that the infiltrator was the Jedi Dass Jennir, stated that an Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter was stolen from the 203rd Division and utilized as a diversion, enabling the majority of grounded civilian ships to escape from New Plympto.

Three months later, Commander Vill and the 501st Legion participated in the Imperial conquest of the planet Bandomeer, an operation personally supervised by Darth Vader. Following the campaign, which was easily won against a group of lightly armed rebellious miners, Vill provided a casualty report to the Sith Lord. Vader then inquired whether the clone stormtroopers were indoctrinated with a contingency order to assassinate him; an order they would execute without question if issued by Emperor Palpatine. Vill's hesitation in answering confirmed Vader's suspicions. He then used the Force to push the clone commander off a cliff to ensure his inquiry did not reach the Emperor.

Like almost all clones bred to serve the Galactic Republic, Vill was programmed with unwavering loyalty to the command structure. Consequently, his complete allegiance belonged to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. Upon Palpatine declaring himself emperor of the nascent Galactic Empire, Vill dedicated his existence to enforcing Palpatine's New Order across the galaxy.
As a typical clone of Jango Fett, Vill's programmed loyalty made him prone to following orders without question or moral consideration. He was neither troubled by the ethical implications of executing unarmed prisoners, nor disturbed by the transportation of civilian families into slavery. Conversely, he adapted swiftly to his new role as a stormtrooper. During the Clone Wars, Vill worried that the clones would be reduced to "glorified policemen" after the Separatists were defeated. Since the rise of the Empire necessitated further military operations, Vill was pleased that the clones continued to be utilized as soldiers. Furthermore, Vill fully embraced the purpose and role of all cloned stormtroopers; their sole existence was to serve the Emperor until death. He felt a degree of empathy for his fellow clones and believed that soldiers needed to feel relevant—if only for the sake of troop morale.
Physically, Vill shared a basic resemblance to millions of other clones from the same genetic template; a genetic consequence of being a clone of Jango Fett, a bounty hunter who perished during the first battle of the Clone Wars. By the time he and his regiment were dispatched to New Plympto, Vill's "face"—or more accurately, Jango Fett's face—bore several scars. As with his cloned "brethren," Vill was engineered to age at an accelerated rate compared to natural Human beings. Thus, his physical age was at least double his actual, chronological age.
Ironically, his loyalty to Emperor Palpatine led to his demise. As a commander in the 501st Legion, Vill was loyal to his superior officer, the Sith Lord Darth Vader. However, when Vader inquired about a secret contingency order to eliminate him, Vill was unable to provide an answer. His loyalty to Vader conflicted with his allegiance to Palpatine. His silence served as all the confirmation Vader needed before eliminating the clone, who had become a liability.
Upon becoming an Imperial stormtrooper, Commander Vill continued to utilize his Phase II battle armor, which originally served as the armored uniform of the Republic clone troopers. Vill's armor displayed the distinctive blue markings that identified him as a member of the 501st Legion. During the conquest of New Plympto, his armor was modified with the addition of a pauldron and kama. In addition to the DC-15A blaster rifle, the primary weapon of cloned stormtroopers at the time, Vill was also equipped with dual DC-17 hand blasters.
Three months after the Battle of New Plympto, the Imperial code of uniformity was more strictly enforced, thus requiring stormtroopers to remove the colored designs from their armor. Vill complied with the new regulation and restored his armor to its fully white appearance. He also discarded his pauldron and kama, adopting the same appearance as the other rank-and-file stormtroopers.
