Dass Jennir, a male Human from the Legends continuity, achieved the rank of Jedi Master and served as a general during the Clone Wars. He notably survived the infamous Order 66. During the Clone Wars, Jennir was stationed on New Plympto, where he spearheaded the Galactic Republic's military operations against the Separatist-aligned Nosaurians. Months into the New Plympto campaign, Jennir's clone troopers turned against him, enacting Order 66, which branded all Jedi as enemies of the Republic, and attempted to kill him. He managed to escape, eventually seeking sanctuary with the very Nosaurians he had been fighting. Jennir then led the Nosaurians in combat against the Republic's successor, Palpatine's Galactic Empire, but they suffered significant losses. From the New Plympto resistance fighters, only Jennir and his companion Bomo Greenbark survived the devastating Battle of Half-Axe Pass.
The two survivors departed the planet aboard the Uhumele, a smuggling ship captained by Captain Schurk-Heren. They journeyed to Orvax IV, where Greenbark's wife and child were held as slaves. Greenbark's wife was already dead, and his daughter had been sold. Jennir, however, discovered the identity of Resa Greenbark's seller, Orso Meeto, and broke the Jedi Code by killing Meeto. The Uhumele transported Jennir and Bomo to Esseles, the home of Resa's buyer, Dezono Qua. They stormed Qua's fortress and confronted him, only to find that Qua had already murdered and consumed Bomo's daughter. Jennir then killed Qua, but Greenbark and the Uhumele left Esseles without him. Despite these events, he continued his path as a Jedi, reaffirming his commitment to the Jedi Code and seeking redemption. His path led him to Cato Neimoidia, where dwindling funds forced him to take a job that conflicted with his Jedi principles, soon placing him in a perilous situation.
During this time, he encountered Ember Chankeli. After completing the job, they set out for Vondarc, but their journey was interrupted by a crash landing on Prine. Following a two-week trek through the desert, Chankeli was captured by pirates. Simultaneously, the assassin Falco Sang was actively pursuing Jennir. Jennir attempted to rescue Chankeli, for whom he had begun to feel affection, but was unsuccessful. Sang captured Chankeli, intending to use her to bait Jennir into a trap. Although Jennir recognized the deception, Sang's droid shot Chankeli. Sang escaped, and Jennir's attempt to heal Chankeli with the Force resulted in him losing consciousness. He later awoke aboard the Uhumele, with Bomo Greenbark at his side. The reunion of the two friends was joyous, and Jennir learned that Chankeli had survived, having been healed by Beyghor Sahdett. Jennir and Chankeli then began a romantic relationship.
Dass Jennir, a male Human who was Force-sensitive, underwent training in the traditions of the Jedi Order, residing within the Jedi Temple located on Coruscant. His superiors considered him to have a weak connection to the Force, and viewed him as "average" in every aspect, although he did demonstrate competence in concentration. One Jedi Master reported to Grand Master Yoda that Jennir would never become a "great Jedi"; the young Padawan overheard this conversation while hidden behind a pillar, feeling dejected. His master taught him that if he could not avoid a conflict, he should seize control and dictate the terms of engagement. Jennir always remembered this lesson. Yoda once told him that even with his unremarkable abilities, the galaxy still needed him.

By the time the Clone Wars broke out, Jennir had been elevated to the rank of Jedi Master, becoming a Jedi General within the Grand Army of the Republic as the widespread conflict engulfed the galaxy. Towards the war's conclusion, he was dispatched to the planet of New Plympto, situated in the Core Worlds. Leading a substantial force of clone troopers, Jennir's mission was to subdue the indigenous Nosaurian population—who had allied themselves with the Confederacy of Independent Systems—as well as a significant number of Separatist battle droids, and to reclaim the planet. Throughout the Clone Wars, they engaged in numerous battles, and Jennir found the Nosaurians to be tenacious adversaries.
In 19 BBY, Jennir's clone troopers—like all others in the Grand Army of the Republic—received the order to execute Order 66. This directive designated all Jedi as enemies of the Republic to be immediately terminated. However, he successfully evaded his attackers. Confused and disoriented, he fled into the forest, seeking refuge from his pursuers in the dense undergrowth. Eventually, the clones ceased their immediate search to look elsewhere, and Jennir continued his escape into the jungle. He later encountered Bomo Greenbark, a lone Nosaurian soldier. Greenbark was unarmed, his weapons lying on the ground. Fearing that the Nosaurian would alert the clones, Jennir attacked him. He pinned Greenbark down and forced him to promise to be cautious and quiet. Greenbark eventually realized that Jennir was a Jedi and grabbed his weapons, preparing to fight. The Jedi Master calmed him down, explaining that the changing circumstances meant that they were now on the same side. To Jennir's dismay, Greenbark confirmed his fears—many Jedi throughout the galaxy had been massacred by their own soldiers.

Greenbark decided he could trust Jennir because they shared a common enemy and began to guide the Jedi back to the Nosaurian settlements. On their way, Greenbark told him about his people's recent struggles. Their main export, rikknit eggs, had been their key to gaining a place within the Galactic Republic, but the Republic had rejected their application and cracked down on the exportation of these eggs. With limited options, they sided with the Separatists. Jennir had never been informed of this, and he began to sympathize with the Nosaurian people after hearing their story. However, Greenbark's fellow Nosaurians were not easily convinced that the Jedi, whom they had been fighting for months, was now an ally. Upon encountering a group of natives in the forest, Jennir was attacked. They ignored Greenbark's pleas, but under the orders of Commander Rootrock, they eventually relented. Rootrock and Jennir spoke, and the elderly commander told Jennir about the alleged power grab by the Jedi Order on Coruscant. They both knew these allegations were false. Rootrock tried to recruit Jennir into his army. Without the Separatist droids, they were vulnerable to the newly formed Galactic Empire, and Jennir could provide protection and leadership. However, Jennir wanted to visit the Jedi Temple on Coruscant to see the extent of Order 66 for himself. He promised to join Rootrock's militia upon his return if the commander provided him with transport.
Rootrock agreed, and Jennir departed for Coruscant—now renamed "Imperial Center"—shortly afterward. Once there, he went to the Jedi Temple, which was closed off to the public. Many people had gathered around the building, including several Jedi who kept their identities secret. Jennir could only watch as a young Jedi, calling for the Order to be rebuilt, was shot down by clone trooper blaster fire. Had Jennir revealed himself, he would have been killed as well. The crowds dispersed, but Jennir sought out another Jedi Master, a Bothan named Kai Hudorra, who had also witnessed the event. They spoke briefly, with Hudorra urging Jennir to discard his hidden lightsaber and forget that he had ever been a Jedi. However, Jennir had made promises to Rootrock and refused. He tried to recruit Hudorra to his cause, but the old Bothan was determined to live out his life in anonymity. Jennir left Coruscant, feeling that the trip had been a waste of time, although he returned with a renewed belief in the Jedi way.
Jennir returned to New Plympto, keeping his promise to Rootrock, and became a general in the Nosaurian armed forces. The Imperial forces remained on New Plympto, aiming to eliminate the Separatist presence. However, under Jennir's leadership and guidance, the Nosaurians fought back, primarily using guerrilla warfare tactics, attacking Imperial forces in valleys and quickly retreating to their forest dwellings. Jennir found that he still had allies in the planet's main spaceport, and used them as spies to inform him of Imperial arrivals. Despite this, the Nosaurians suffered heavy losses in their skirmishes with the Empire, and after several weeks of fighting, Jennir knew that the Nosaurian Separatists would eventually be defeated.

Sometime after Order 66, the Nosaurians realized that they would die fighting and arranged for their loved ones—children, wives, and parents—to be transported offworld. Jennir led the remaining Nosaurian forces during the Battle of Half-Axe Pass. The Nosaurians fared poorly in the initial stages of the battle, and Jennir—who had started using conventional blasters instead of his lightsaber—knew that they would likely die fighting. Bomo Greenbark was tasked with evacuating the Nosaurian civilians, escorting their single transport toward the planet's spaceport so they could travel to Sullust. Jennir, Rootrock, and the others held on, knowing that every extra minute they occupied the Imperials would give the civilians more time to escape. The Imperials continued their assault, killing General Rootrock and Commander Limbfree and bringing in heavy TX-130T fighter tanks, which the Nosaurians could not defend against.
Greenbark eventually returned to the fighting after ensuring the departure of the civilian transport. Jennir told him about the situation and pleaded with him to order a retreat. The Nosaurians refused, knowing that holding the Half-Axe Pass was crucial for evacuating their families. Jennir improvised, using his lightsaber to cut down a large tree, which damaged an Imperial tank and blocked the path of other vehicles. He planned to use this tactic to distract the Empire while the other Nosaurians retreated. The stormtroopers realized this, and as Jennir moved to cut down the next tree, a powerful blaster shot from one of the Imperial tanks sent him and Greenbark sprawling. The tree was uprooted, and the two unconscious soldiers fell into a pit created by the tree's movement. As a result, they avoided the subsequent rout, in which every Nosaurian was killed by the attacking stormtroopers, even those who had surrendered.
After some time, the two awoke and climbed out of the pit, eventually stumbling upon the battlefield where the Nosaurians had been massacred. Distraught by the sight of their comrades' bodies, Greenbark wanted to launch a suicide attack against the Imperials. However, Jennir convinced him otherwise, and they covertly made their way into the planet's main spaceport to find passage offworld. Upon arriving, they noticed that the port was nearly full of docked ships. They had expected it to be deserted, with spacers transporting the Nosaurian women and children to various parts of the galaxy. Suspicious, they skulked around the port and eventually entered a smuggling ship called the Uhumele. A woman, Crys Taanzer, was acting as a sentry, but Jennir silenced her when she noticed them. They walked into the ship's main entertainment area, where the entire crew of the Uhumele had gathered: the captain, Schurk-Heren; Mezgraf and Ko Vakier, who served as gunners and bodyguards; the navigator, Lynaliskar K'ra Snyffulnimatta; and Meekerdin-maa and Janks, the ship's engineers. After Jennir explained his and Greenbark's situation—without revealing that he was a Jedi—Heren agreed to transport them to their desired destination, as he was also an enemy of the Empire. They told him about Greenbark's family and that the refugees should have arrived earlier in the day. However, Greenbark's family and all the other civilians were never in the spaceport because their transport had been intercepted by the Empire. To Greenbark's immense distress, Heren told them that all those captured had been sold to slavers on Orvax IV.

The two outlaws were given quarters on Heren's ship and told that they could stay with the Uhumele as long as they wanted. Despite Jennir's attempts to calm him, Greenbark was still distraught about his family's fate. They had little time to settle in, however. Crys Taanzer reported that Imperial stormtroopers were searching every ship in the starport, and Heren, who had his own illicit cargo, called a meeting in his lavish living quarters. The Yarkora captain informed the crew of the situation and asked them what they wanted to do. Several crew members were eager to blast their way out of New Plympto, but Jennir, knowing they would be destroyed, proposed an alternate plan. If all the ships in the port took off simultaneously, the Uhumele could escape in the commotion, according to the Jedi Master. The crew rejected the plan, doubting the trustworthiness of some of the other ships. Determined to get himself and his friend offworld, Jennir decided to give the other ships a reason to leave.
He left the Uhumele and returned to the jungle, hiding in the undergrowth to wait for an Imperial convoy. As the convoy passed, the Jedi Master killed a lone stormtrooper of the 501st Legion and took his armor. Disguised as a stormtrooper, Jennir returned to the city and commandeered a V-wing starfighter. After contacting the crew of the Uhumele and telling them to prepare for takeoff, he began firing on parked vessels, intending to scare the crews into fleeing. With the Uhumele in front, every ship in the spaceport took off, leaving the Imperials confused and short on personnel. ARC-170 starfighters were sent to pursue Schurk-Heren and Jennir, but the combined firepower of Jennir's starfighter and the Uhumele held them off. When they reached space, Jennir docked with the other ship, and they jumped into hyperspace.
The Uhumele headed toward Orvax IV, and Jennir, exhausted from the day's events, was treated to a feast prepared by the ship's Togorian chef, Mezgraf. Mezgraf, a former slave on Orvax IV, told Greenbark and Jennir about the planet's horrors. Greenbark was appalled and worried about his daughter's and wife's safety, but Jennir urged him to remain hopeful. However, Jennir was struggling to maintain that hope himself. He was unsure of his path in life and frightened by the prospect of the Sith wiping out all the Jedi. Jennir was also becoming suspicious of Heren's hospitality and wondered if the Yarkora had an ulterior motive. He voiced his concerns to Greenbark, who reasoned that their assistance in getting the Uhumele off-planet had indebted Heren to them. Jennir's suspicions persisted.

Eventually, Schurk-Heren announced that they had arrived at Orvax IV. Mezgraf and Heren believed that Resa and Mesa Greenbark had likely been separated and sold, but Bomo and Jennir were determined to find them. They realized that if they located the group of Nosaurians taken from New Plympto, Bomo would have to abandon many of his friends when rescuing his family. They would be unable to free so many prisoners in secrecy, but Bomo felt strong enough to leave his fellow Nosaurians behind. Eventually, after several members of Heren's crew offered their assistance, Jennir devised a plan.
Greenbark, Jennir, and three of the Uhumele's crew—Ko Vakier, Mezgraf, and Meekerdin-maa—infiltrated Orvax IV's slave district, concealing their identities and species with large cloaks. Meekerdin-maa, a short Tintinna, and Greenbark, who was also shorter than Jennir and the others, wore Jawa disguises. On the planet, Mezgraf guided them to where the slaves were kept, but they inadvertently caused a Vulptereen driving a swoop bike to collide with a huge creature walking on Orvax IV's streets. The creature became agitated and began to stampede. Mezgraf managed to climb onto the beast's back and subdue it, moments before it would have trampled Jennir. However, in dismounting the creature, Mezgraf accidentally revealed the tattoo on his bicep that marked him as a former slave. A nearby being alerted the T'surr guards, but Jennir used a mind trick of the Force to dissuade them. Not wanting to reveal his Force-sensitivity to the others, he told them that he had bribed the guards.
Moments after the T'surr left, Greenbark discovered a group of female Nosaurian captives and rushed off to speak with them. Jennir and the others gave chase, as did several more T'surr guards. Ko Vakier, Mezgraf, and Jennir arrived just in time to save Greenbark and Meekerdin-maa from the guards' wrath and managed to incapacitate or kill each of the T'surr. Bomo then spoke with the Nosaurian civilians, who informed him that his wife Mesa had been killed hours earlier trying to stop the slavers from taking Resa, who was now in captivity.
Jennir told the others to return to the Uhumele and to depart Orvax IV if he did not return by midnight. The others left, with Mezgraf physically pulling Greenbark away. Before following the others, Meekerdin-maa revealed that he knew Jennir was a Jedi, wishing him the Force—a common phrase among Jedi. The remaining Nosaurian captives, trapped in a large, caged pit, pleaded with him to rescue them, but Jennir ignored their cries and left. Freeing them would significantly reduce his chances of finding Resa Greenbark.

Jennir dedicated the majority of his day to conducting subtle and careful investigations into the identity of the individual who sold Resa into slavery, ultimately achieving his objective. The slaver turned out to be a prosperous Chagrian known as Orso Meeto. Employing more direct methods, Jennir determined that Meeto resided in a luxurious penthouse within one of Orvax IV's most affluent neighborhoods and would be present at his residence that evening. Equipping himself with only a blaster pistol, Jennir ascended the building's numerous levels until he arrived at Meeto's dwelling. He scaled a balcony and entered a room through a set of doors, discovering Meeto engrossed in watching a holographic performance by a Chagrian woman. Before Meeto could alert his guards, Jennir brandished his weapon, presenting a miniature hologram of Resa Greenbark and demanding to know her current location. Meeto revealed that she had been sold to Dezono Qua, a man hailing from Esseles. Possessing the information he sought, Jennir faced a crucial dilemma: eliminate Meeto and escape undetected, or spare his life, potentially alerting Qua. Recognizing that he was irrevocably abandoning the path of the Jedi, Jennir discharged his blaster at point-blank range, instantly killing Meeto. Initially, he felt justified in his actions, experiencing a sense of liberation from the constraints of the Jedi Code. However, the Chagrian's guards stormed into the room upon hearing the gunshot. Jennir evaded their blaster fire and leaped from the balcony, commencing a long fall toward a domed structure. As he plummeted, he began to question his life choices and regretted violating the Jedi Code.
Jennir crashed through the roof of the dome, landing heavily amidst a group of Neimoidians. He fled the building, pursued by Meeto's Chagrian bodyguards, who also notified the planet's security forces. Despite their efforts, Jennir managed to elude them, arriving at the Uhumele just before his self-imposed midnight deadline. He provided Dezono Qua's coordinates, and Bomo expressed his gratitude, but Jennir desired solitude. He reflected on his conversation with Kai Hudorra on Coruscant, where he had vowed to remain a Jedi, realizing that within a few short months, he had already made significant compromises and committed reprehensible acts. He began to contemplate how much more of his former self he could sacrifice for the sake of his friends.
The Uhumele journeyed to Esseles over several days, eventually reaching the planet's capital, Calamar. Upon arrival, Jennir inquired about Dezono Qua with local authorities, discovering that the Human was the sole heir to a wealthy family and resided alone in a fortified mansion atop a towering mountain. Qua was known for his reclusive nature, and while the authorities harbored suspicions about him, his bribes deterred them from investigating further. Jennir informed the others that Qua's fortress was guarded exclusively by battle droids and volunteered himself and Greenbark to spearhead the raid on the mansion, given their shared experience with the capabilities and limitations of battle droids during their service in the Clone Wars. However, Heren and his crew insisted on participating in the attack on Qua and offered their assistance.

They piloted the Uhumele towards Qua's fortress, landing just outside its perimeter. Qua's IG-series security droids advanced to investigate, and Jennir, Greenbark, and the entire crew of the Uhumele emerged from the ship, unleashing a barrage of blaster fire that quickly overwhelmed the initial wave of droids. Greenbark, Meekerdin-maa, and Janks headed towards the droid control center to disable them, while Heren, Mezgraf, and Ko Vakier stormed the mansion's ground floor. Jennir employed the Force to ascend to the higher levels of the fortress, utilizing his Jedi abilities to destroy any droids he encountered as he advanced towards Qua's location. He wielded the Force without restraint, rationalizing that rescuing Resa Greenbark would atone for his previous transgressions. Bomo's team eventually deactivated the droids, allowing Jennir to reach the landing platform with Qua's ship before Qua himself arrived.
Jennir confronted the recluse, holding him at gunpoint and demanding to know Resa's whereabouts. Qua attempted to bribe Jennir, but he refused. Bomo, accompanied by Meekerdin-maa, Janks, and Heren's group, reiterated Jennir's demand. Qua mocked them, revealing that Resa, like all the other younglings he had acquired, was dead, having been consumed by him. Bomo, Ko Vakier, and Mezgraf prepared to attack Qua, but Jennir acted swiftly, shooting him three times in the chest. Bomo was enraged by Jennir's actions, as he had desired to exact vengeance himself, and accused Jennir of denying him that right. Jennir believed that Bomo killing Resa's killer would not bring her back, and that murdering Qua would impact negatively on his friend. Bomo attacked his companion, and in the process inadvertently revealed to the Uhumele's crew that he was a Jedi.

Shortly after Qua's death, the others abandoned Jennir on Esseles, departing in the Uhumele. While some, like Mezgraf, expressed a desire for Jennir to remain with the crew, most were angered by his killing of Qua and denying Greenbark his revenge. Bomo's anger toward his friend eventually subsided, though Jennir and the Uhumele were on opposite sides of the galaxy by that time. Jennir resolved to continue his life alone, vowing to remember and uphold the principles he had learned as a Jedi Padawan. He drastically altered his appearance, physically distancing himself from his Jedi past. Although tempted to discard his lightsaber, he ultimately decided to keep it. He departed Esseles in Qua's ship, determined to allow the Force to guide his future. He brought H2, Qua's pilot droid, along on his travels, and it accompanied him whenever he ventured off ship. However, their relationship was strained, as H2 harbored resentment towards Jennir for murdering Qua.
As time passed, Jennir's financial resources dwindled significantly. Acknowledging that even a fugitive Jedi needed sustenance, he began seeking employment, eventually finding his way to Cato Neimoidia. This former stronghold of the Trade Federation and Separatist movement had become a haven for scavengers and opportunists from across the galaxy, drawn by the planet's vulnerability to exploitation. His job search led him to a clandestine cantina on Cato Neimoidia, known as a place to find discreet employment opportunities without attracting unwanted attention. The cantina operated as a closed system, where clients posted job offers directly and selected applicants, shielding mercenaries, smugglers, and others from Imperial scrutiny. For a while, Jennir was unable to find a job that would allow him to continue following the teachings of the Jedi, and he accepted none. He grew hungrier, more broke, and more desperate.
One particular day, while waiting in the cantina, Jennir's attention was drawn to a woman entering the establishment. She wore a large, hooded robe that obscured her features, but she possessed a distinctive scent that piqued Jennir's interest. The other patrons of the cantina also took notice of her, sensing the potential for a new job opportunity. As the woman passed Jennir, he sensed that her job might be different from the rest, one his Jedi scruples would permit him to carry out. Soon after, her job description was displayed on the cantina's holoscreen system. Identified as Ember Chankeli, she sought a warrior or security guard to liberate her town from a gang, "by guile or by force." Jennir believed that he could accept this job, as Chankeli claimed that dealing with the gang would restore safety to her town. The fact that it also paid well was an added bonus. He noted the time and location for meeting her to apply for the job, but another patron of the cantina stopped him before he could leave.

A Chistori, known for their strength and aggression but lacking in intelligence, declared that the job was his. After the Chistori lunged at him, Jennir sent him sprawling onto the floor. The Chistori quickly regained his footing and launched another attack. This time, Jennir pushed him through the cantina's window, sending him onto the walkway below. To ensure the Chistori was incapacitated, Jennir kicked him in the head, then turned to leave for his ship. He met up with H2, who mocked him for getting into yet another scuffle. They returned to the ship, and Jennir hoped that the meeting with Chankeli in the morning would see his luck change.
The following day, Jennir found Chankeli at the designated meeting place, but another hopeful job applicant was already present. Both Jennir and the other applicant, a young Human male, pressed Chankeli for more details about the job before committing to anything. Hesitantly, she explained that her town's thriving tourist industry had been crippled by the gang's establishment in the area, and she desired to restore things to their former state. When she revealed that the gang had over forty members, the other applicant doubted that two men could overcome them, but Jennir remained confident in his abilities. Chankeli proposed that they infiltrate the gang, which was actively recruiting, and dismantle it from within, sowing discord and division among its members, ultimately turning the gang's leader and his chief enforcer against each other.
Before Chankeli could elaborate further, Jennir's Chistori rival arrived with a group of cronies, determined to seize the job for himself. Jennir provoked the Chistori into attacking him and swiftly tossed the brute aside. One of his companions, a Kilmaulsi, charged at Jennir, but the Jedi Master was able to subdue him with a subtle application of the Force. With the attackers incapacitated, Chankeli informed Jennir that the other applicant had fled and that the job was his for the taking, if he desired it. She provided more details about joining the gang, noting that they were holding a recruitment drive, making it easy to join. Chankeli offered him a room at her "inn" in town but stipulated that he must not interact with her publicly while in town. When she revealed that the gang was also involved in slavery, Jennir rashly accepted. Chankeli briefly questioned his motives but then dismissed them. She then revealed that, in fact, there were more than fifty members in the gang. She provided him with credits and the coordinates to her town, where he would rendezvous with her in two weeks' time.
Despite recognizing several reasons why he should have declined the job, Jennir felt that he was finally on the path to restoring his true balance.
Upon arriving on Telerath, Jennir encountered a water taxi driver named Fish, whom he hired as a retainer. He soon learned from Fish that there were actually two gangs, the Slavers and the Spicers, a detail that Chankeli had omitted. With Fish's assistance, Jennir located the Slavers' tryouts. According to the local Sword Law, the Slavers' head enforcer, Mors Demanna, engaged all prospective members in one-on-one combat to assess their abilities.
While in the crowd, Jennir met a young teen named Dado, who was preparing to fight in the ring in an attempt to join the gang. Recognizing that Demanna possessed far superior skills, Jennir used his blaster to disarm all of the Slavers of their swords as soon as Dado entered the ring. One of the Slavers, enraged by this, drew his own blaster and attempted to shoot Jennir in the back. Demanna intervened, stopping the slaver himself and informing Jennir of the local Sword Law, which applied to everyone without exception. The law stipulated that all disputes should be resolved with a sword, thereby preserving peace and honor. Demanna admonished Jennir, then turned and killed his fellow slaver. He then sliced off Dado's arm, telling him to learn his place. Jennir was furious at Demanna's cruelty, but knowing he couldn't jeopardize his mission, he stayed his hand. Chankeli, who had been covertly watching the confrontation, summoned Jennir discreetly and told him that everything was proceeding as planned. Jennir was not so sure.
Jennir met Chankeli again at her hotel, Ember's Fire, where he rented a room. She warned him about Demanna's men, who blamed Jennir for the death of their comrade, cautioning him to lay low for a while. When he inquired about the Spicers, Chankeli evaded the question, instructing him to focus on "JUST the Slavers." She provided him with half of his payment, telling him to stay in his room.
After they parted company, Jennir encountered Nikollane, the mother of Dado, who had lost his hand to Demanna. Seeing that the boy lacked proper medical care, Jennir volunteered his services, claiming to have experience with such wounds. After providing what assistance he could, Jennir embarked on a mission, thanks to a piece of information that Chankeli had inadvertently revealed about the Spicers during their conversation.
With assistance from Fish and H2, Jennir traveled to Telerath's second moon, where the Spicers operated their processing plant. After observing that some of the slaves used by the Spicers were Nosaurians, H2 returned to the ship, leaving Jennir to wreak havoc on the gang members. Employing the "Sword Law" against the Spicers, Jennir used his blaster with extreme prejudice. As he eliminated the guards, Jennir reflected on how his role had evolved. As a Jedi, he had been a peacekeeper, but now, without laws or the Republic, he had become a peacemaker, acting against those who preyed on the helpless. After resolving a standoff with a guard who threatened a Nosaurian slave (who had recognized Jennir), he instructed the slaves to seize the Spicer's ships and flee to a safer location, stating that he still had work to do. He then returned to Telerath, leaving behind a knife from one of the Slavers that would be easily identified.

Upon his arrival, Jennir met with Demanna again, who escorted him into the estate and into the presence of his master, Boss Musori. At Musori's command, Demanna engaged Jennir in a duel to test his skill with a sword. Jennir struggled somewhat, being more accustomed to wielding a lightsaber, but managed to put up a respectable fight. After being defeated, Jennir departed, sowing a seed of discord between the two Chagrians by subtly questioning Demanna's honor, asking why he took orders from a "civilian" like Musori.
Shortly thereafter, while at a sidewalk cantina, Jennir was approached by four members of the Spicers, who had been sent to bring him to their leader. After humbling the guards, he brought them to their master, Ken-Kiba, leader of the Spicers, and informed him that the Slavers had destroyed their spice refinery. Receiving no response from the comm, Ken-Kiba mobilized his men. Jennir then left, telling H2 that things would soon escalate rapidly.
Returning to Chankeli's hotel, he discovered that Dado had left in another attempt to join the Slavers. Jennir immediately departed and, upon finding the young man, reasoned with him, explaining the difference between strength and honor. Just then, the Spicers attacked Musori's mansion, having discovered the Slaver knife that Jennir had planted as evidence. As Dado remarked in astonishment that they were violating the Sword Law, Jennir replied that the erupted war had nothing to do with honor, only destruction.
Jennir returned with Dado to Ember's Fire and urged everyone to evacuate, but it was too late. Chankeli had deduced Jennir's machinations and reported him to Ken-Kiba, who arrived at the hotel with her just in time to capture Jennir and begin beating him for the damage he had caused. With assistance from Nikollane, he escaped through a trapdoor to the river below, where he was rescued by Fish. He awoke the next morning in Fish's house, where his retainer informed him of the events of the previous night. The Slavers were all dead (with the exception of Demanna), and Ember Chankeli was being held prisoner by Ken-Kiba, who believed that she had manipulated him through Jennir for her own benefit. H2 had been shot while gathering information for Fish, although he had managed to return with Jennir's sword before shutting down. Jennir then entered a healing trance to accelerate his recovery from his injuries.

Determined to prevent others from suffering the consequences of his actions, he planned to stop the Spicers. Unfortunately, the gang discovered his hiding place and came to capture him. While Jennir hid, Fish was taken prisoner, as the guards believed they could use him to locate Jennir. Emerging from his hiding place, Jennir retrieved his lightsaber from its concealed location since his departure from Bomo and the Uhumele's crew.
After liberating the prisoners at Chankeli's hotel, he faced off against Demanna once again, easily defeating him this time. When asked how, Jennir replied that he had played to Demanna's pride and allowed him to win their first encounter. Freeing Chankeli from her bonds, he went to where the Spicers were tormenting Fish for information on Jennir's location. Drawing their attention, Jennir prepared to fight. When Chankeli, who had followed Jennir, asked him why he was doing this, he activated his lightsaber and replied that it was his job.
Chankeli agreed to join Jennir, and they departed for Vondarc, where Chankeli claimed to have family, aboard Desono Qua's starship.
Jennir repaired H2 during the flight. Before they could reach Vondarc, however, they were intercepted by the Imperial cruiser Harvester in the Prine system. Pursued by Imperial fighters, Jennir and Chankeli sought refuge on the planet Prine. Sustaining damage, their ship crashed on Prine's Wasteland.

After wandering the wilderness for two weeks, Chankeli confessed to Jennir that she had no family on Vondarc and hoped to establish a new business in the planet's bustling port. Soon afterwards, Jennir, Chankeli, and H2 encountered a caravan of slave traders. While Jennir climbed a cliff to scout for water, Chankeli ran towards the brigands, crying out for rescue, and was kidnapped. Unbeknownst to them, Darth Vader, assassin Falco Sang, and the crew of the Uhumele (along with Beyghor Sahdett, another fugitive Jedi), were tracking them.
Needing transportation, Jennir used the Force to tame a native animal and pursued the caravan. As they stopped to rest for the night, Jennir noticed that the creature had injured its leg in the struggle. While H2 went to gather plants for the creature to eat, Jennir focused on healing his mount. Due to his diminished connection to the Force, he fainted from the effort. When he awoke, it was morning, and the creature's leg was fully healed. Jennir then proceeded to catch up to the slavers. He attacked the caravan directly, fighting his way through them before reaching Chankeli and her fellow captive, Maddie. Unfortunately, Sang had also caught up and disabled the hover barge, causing Chankeli to fall overboard. Deflecting sniper fire from Sang, Jennir was unable to help her. Chankeli pleaded with Jennir to take Maddie and run, which Jennir was forced to do. Finding refuge in a valley, Jennir instructed his mount to protect Maddie and guide her back to her village. Though Maddie initially refused to leave, Jennir told her that their attacked would shoot to kill, unlike the slavers. He promised her that he and Chankeli would meet with her in her village.
Returning to the site of the fallen barge to ascertain Sang's planned trap, Jennir spotted Chankeli gagged and bound to a stake. He deduced that Sang was in hiding, expecting him to simply approach. Therefore, he disguised H2 as himself with his cloak and hat to simply walk up to Chankeli; Sang shot the droid, after which Jennir revealed himself. As he threw the assassin against the barge, Sang revealed that it was H2 who had brought him there. Denozo Qua's family had hired him to hunt down Qua's murderers. Sang had tracked Jennir across the galaxy through H2, until the incident on Telerath, after which the droid stopped transmitting. Sang had then proceeded to track Qua's ship, which Jennir was still using, by hacking Imperial records, killing Janks as a bonus.
Sang then signaled his droid Izee, who was in a sniper position, to fire, hitting both Chankeli and H2 in one shot. Jennir ran to Chankeli as Sang ordered Izee to fire again. Jennir effortlessly deflected the shot with his lightsaber without even looking, directly into Izee, destroying the droid, to the bounty hunter's shock. As Sang took off, Jennir called to H2 to help him but the droid, damaged by Sang, shut down. Jennir then desperately tried to heal Chankeli as he had with the creature, but again, he passed out from the effort.

Upon regaining consciousness, Jennir found Greenbark looming over him. Greenbark expressed his regret for his previous anger, now realizing that Jennir's killing of Qua was an act of mercy to prevent Greenbark from seeking revenge himself. Jennir then detailed Sang's role in Janks' demise, to which Greenbark somberly added that Sniffles and Crys Taanzer had also perished. Jennir's immediate worry was that Chankeli had suffered the same fate, but Bomo revealed that she was alive and recuperating aboard the Uhumele. Overwhelmed, Jennir rushed to her quarters and kissed her, prompting the crew to grant them privacy. Breaking the kiss, he voiced his remorse, reminding himself that Jedi are expected to master their emotions. Chankeli then voiced her fears for Maddie's well-being; subsequently, Jennir approached Schurk-Heren, requesting a return to Prine, but his request was denied due to an Imperial battle cruiser's search for him on the planet. The discussion eventually turned to Darth Vader and a figure named Sahdett, whom Jennir was unfamiliar with. Schurk-Heren clarified that Sahdett was another Jedi, assuming Jennir was already aware of him. Jennir explained that the Jedi Order consisted of thousands, and while a prior meeting was possible, he had no recollection of it. Greenbark then recounted their encounter with Sahdett and his rescue from Imperials, adding that the Verpine wished to discuss Jedi matters with Jennir, a request Jennir gladly accepted.
Jennir's thoughts soon returned to Chankeli, who had changed into some of Taanzer's old garments. As they spent time together in private, she discerned his concern for Maddie. Even if Maddie were to return home, he feared that he might have shattered her hopes of seeing them together again. He then embraced Chankeli, lamenting the darkness that had enveloped the galaxy and the likelihood of further troubles finding them.
In the months following the Empire's rise, the crew of the Uhumele had endured losses, leading them to a collective decision: to deliver a significant blow to the Imperial forces. However, Jennir, grappling with his newfound feelings for Chankeli, hesitated to participate in a plan that could endanger those he held dear. That evening, he confided in Chankeli about the scheme, detailing not only her involvement but also the complexity of the plan, which necessitated the inclusion of another Jedi in hiding. Ultimately, Chankeli expressed her belief that he would make the right decision, regardless of his choice.
Having made up his mind, Jennir dedicated the following morning to being briefed by Sahdett, who revealed that the plan specifically targeted Darth Vader. Exploiting the Sith Lord's obsession with hunting Jedi, the strategy involved using one of them as bait to draw Vader into a trap where they would have a numerical advantage. Fully understanding the plan's implications, Jennir agreed, but requested additional time to devise a method for securing the cooperation of the other Jedi he had in mind. In the interim, he sought assistance from Meekerdin-maa to secretly acquire and construct a device, unbeknownst to the rest of the crew.
The search for the hidden Jedi spanned several weeks before the Uhumele arrived on Rion, seventeen planets later. While the voyage yielded no Jedi, the abundance of produce on the planet led to an impromptu feast among the crew. Regrettably, the festivities were cut short when Chankeli abruptly left the room, displeased by Jennir's neglect. Schurk-Heren offered the Jedi some advice on interpersonal relationships, which Jennir took to heart and followed Chankeli back to their quarters. They shared a heartfelt moment, addressing her anxieties about the upcoming mission.
Afterwards, Jennir made a brief visit to Meekerdin-maa, who reported the completion of the clandestine project, although Jennir insisted on making the necessary adjustments himself. This deception did not escape Greenbark's notice, however, who confronted Jennir about what he was concealing from the crew. In response, Jennir questioned whether he had any intention of endangering the ship, its crew, or Chankeli in particular; Greenbark conceded that such actions were not in the Jedi's nature. To further ensure the secrecy, Jennir used a mind trick on his friend, causing him to forget their encounter.
Days later, the Uhumele reached Kestavel. Upon receiving a report on the planet's condition, Jennir confirmed that their destination — The Lucky Twi'lek — was undoubtedly the place to find their Jedi. Dressed in elaborate attire prepared by Chankeli to blend in with the casino's affluent clientele, the crew made their way along the winding road to the establishment. There, they were greeted by an irate Kai Hudorra, whose aspirations had led him to become the owner of The Lucky Twi'lek, and his bodyguards. Reluctantly, Hudorra welcomed the crew inside and invited Jennir and Sahdett — along with H2 and Greenbark, upon request — to his office to hear out the plans that required his assistance. To Greenbark's astonishment, Hudorra saw through Sahdett's deceit, which Jennir acknowledged, revealing that his true intention was to bring Sahdett to Hudorra to compensate for his shortcomings as a lightsaber duelist.
The duel against the fallen Jedi commenced in earnest as Jennir pushed Greenbark to safety while Hudorra retrieved the lightsaber stored within H2. Unwilling to be confined in such a small space with two Jedi Masters, Sahdett burst out of the office into the main hall, briefly incapacitating Hudorra with a powerful Force push. As he had feared, Jennir was pushed back against the wall by the superior duelist, only to be momentarily saved by Mezgraf, Ko Vakier, and the casino guards, whom Sahdett swiftly dispatched. When all seemed lost, Greenbark temporarily blinded Sahdett with his flash, creating an opening for Jennir to stab the Verpine in the thigh and for the recovered Hudorra to disarm and subdue him.
With the casino patrons dispersed after the fight, the two Jedi interrogated the apprehended Sahdett, learning of the trials he had endured in the presence of the Emperor. Furthermore, the Verpine revealed that he had already alerted the Emperor and that Vader was undoubtedly on his way.
In preparation for the impending battle, Jennir participated in planning out the course of action against the incoming Imperial assault. While every member of the Uhumele's crew, as well as the remaining casino staff loyal to Hudorra, was willing to die for the cause, Jennir ultimately wished to send them on their way, leaving the fighting to Hudorra and himself. This intention was revealed during the banquet before the battle, much to the protest of his friends. To quell the dispute, he reached out into the Force and pacified Greenbark, then influenced the minds of others to comply with his plan. Unbeknownst to him, however, Hudorra had his own plans. Inspired by the tales of heroism Jennir had displayed during his months in hiding from Chankeli and H2, the Bothan Jedi Master had Jennir drugged and removed from the fight along with his companions. Jennir regained consciousness aboard the Uhumele and received parting words from Hudorra through a pre-recorded message.

Dass Jennir was deeply devoted to the Republic, and even after its dissolution and the rise of the Empire, he remained committed to the ideals and principles upon which it was founded. He also possessed unwavering loyalty and kindness towards his friends; he repaid Rootrock's provision of transport to Coruscant by leading the Nosaurians in battle, fulfilling his promise. He genuinely cared for those he believed were being wronged and did everything in his power to assist them. Jennir felt compelled to repay Bomo Greenbark for saving his life after Order 66; he abandoned his own principles to attempt to locate and rescue Bomo's family. Ultimately, while both were important to him, his friends held greater significance than his personal code of conduct.
Jennir was a man of action, frequently risking his life in situations where others would not. He refused to stand idly by like the crew of the Uhumele while on New Plympto, risking his life to create a diversion. Similarly, he broke into Meeto's home to ascertain Resa's location, and again led the assault on Qua's mansion on Esseles. Jennir was a born leader; throughout his life, he led teams of clone troopers, the Nosaurian rebels, and the Uhumele's crew, earning respect for his efforts. According to Bomo Greenbark, Jennir believed that, as a Jedi, he was automatically in charge and always knew what was best for everyone.
Jennir held a profound attachment to the Jedi Order, and he revered and cherished everything it stood for. During the dark times following Order 66, he maintained his faith in the Order and its philosophies, refusing to believe the reports that the Jedi had attempted to overthrow the Senate. Although he occasionally violated the Jedi Code during the Great Jedi Purge, Jennir never forgot his Jedi heritage, as Kai Hudorra suggested he do, and he strived to continue behaving like a Jedi after leaving the Uhumele.

Dass Jennir possessed exceptional physical fitness as a result of his Jedi training. This fitness, combined with his Force-sensitivity, enabled him to jump, climb, and fight with both effectiveness and ease. During his service with the Nosaurians alongside Bomo Greenbark and Rootrock, he fought on rugged, mountainous terrain, diving down steep hills to ambush stormtroopers. He also demonstrated proficiency as a climber, ascending hundreds of meters up the side of Orso Meeto's apartment building with minimal equipment. He performed a similar feat on Esseles, using only the Force to scale Dezono Qua's castle. Furthermore, Jennir was skilled in unarmed combat, overpowering stormtroopers on New Plympto, hulking security guards on Orvax IV, battle droids on Esseles, and mercenaries on Cato Neimoidia without the aid of a weapon.
Like most Jedi, Jennir was proficient with a lightsaber, using it on several occasions to create obstacles for Imperial forces on New Plympto. However, Jennir generally preferred to use blasters during the Great Jedi Purge, wielding both pistols and rifles, sometimes simultaneously. Jennir was also a skilled pilot, outmaneuvering members of the 501st Legion on New Plympto despite flying a starfighter with significantly less armament.
While Jennir possessed sufficient Force sensitivity to qualify for Jedi training, the Order noted that his connection to The Force was not particularly strong, even dismissing him as a potential great Jedi. Nevertheless, he demonstrated several notable Force powers, ranging from the aforementioned enhancement of his physical abilities to the performance of powerful Mind tricks, such as when he used the power to make Bomo Greenbark forget what he had heard and seen when confronting Jennir about keeping secrets. Furthermore, he was capable of Force healing himself and others through meditation; however, this ability was severely limited by his capacity to maintain his composure, as evidenced by his failure to resuscitate Chankeli when she was shot by Sang.

Dass Jennir was conceived by Randy Stradley, writing under the pseudonym Welles Hartley, for the concluding story arc of Star Wars: Republic, Into the Unknown, with illustrations by Doug Wheatley. Jennir and Bomo Greenbark, two of the central characters in Into the Unknown, were subsequently reused by Stradley—this time under the alias Mick Harrison—almost a year later in a new comic series, Star Wars: Dark Times. Initially, there were no plans for Jennir and Greenbark to reappear after Into the Unknown was published, but Stradley and Wheatley decided to feature them in Dark Times's inaugural story arc, The Path to Nowhere. Jennir played a prominent role in The Path to Nowhere, but did not appear in subsequent story arcs. Randy Stradley, the vice-president of Dark Horse Comics, stated that Jennir would return in later Dark Times issues, a confirmation he provided via Darkhorse.com's monthly "From the Editor" feature. Jennir was slated to be the main character in the five-issue Blue Harvest story arc, commencing in April 2009. He was featured in an online preview segment on MySpace Dark Horse Presents in January 2009 and reappeared in the second segment in February. Jennir received a brief mention in The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide in 2008, and later that year, he was given an entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
An early concept for Dark Times depicted Dass Jennir with short hair, a design choice that artist Doug Wheatley ultimately rejected. Later, during the Blue Harvest story arc, this design was repurposed, with Jennir sporting shorter hair and a beard. Jennir has garnered considerable popularity among fans, with many drawing comparisons between his physical appearance and that of Legolas, a character from The Lord of the Rings, although Doug Wheatley has asserted that this resemblance was unintentional.
