Mezgraf, a Togorian distinguished by his white fur, served as a crew member aboard the starship Uhumele. His past included enslavement on the planet Orvax IV, before he became a member of the crew. Despite his freedom, the scars of a slaver's brand remained visible through his fur on his right shoulder, a mark he often concealed with a long-sleeved jacket.
Having once been held as a slave, Mezgraf eventually found his place within the crew of the Uhumele. His path intersected with Dass Jennir and Bomo Greenbark when he tried to secretly board their ship. Upon learning of their quest to liberate Bomo's wife and daughter, he pledged his assistance, driven by his inability to ignore the suffering of fellow slaves. He shared his knowledge of the horrors of Orvax IV, the likely destination of Bomo's family, leading them to the planet. On Orvax IV, a beast keeper recognized Mezgraf by the faded brand on his shoulder, visible when Mezgraf used his jacket to soothe the keeper's creature.
After Bomo jeopardized their mission with an attempted escape, Mezgraf silenced him and carried him back to the Uhumele, where they awaited Dass Jennir's return with information about Resa Greenbark's buyer. Dass Jennir arrived just before their planned departure, revealing that Resa's buyer was Dezono Qua, residing on Esseles. They hastened to Esseles, only to discover they were too late to prevent Resa from being devoured by Dezono Qua. Following Bomo's outburst, where he exposed Dass Jennir as a Jedi due to his anger at not being allowed to kill Dezono, the Uhumele crew departed with Bomo Greenbark. As they left Esseles, Mezgraf voiced his interest in introducing Dass Jennir to the Uhumele's captain, Schurk-Heren.
