Schurk-Heren

Schurk-Heren was a Yarkora contrabandist, and the commander of the starship Uhumele.

Biography

Captain of the Uhumele

Following a failed attempt to commandeer the Uhumele by Dass Jennir and Bomo Greenbark, Schurk-Heren welcomed the pair aboard as passengers, after they escaped the Battle of Half-Axe Pass. The ship carried Dreypa's Oubliette. Upon departing, they journeyed to Orvax IV to locate Greenbark's relatives. After discovering Greenbark's wife's demise, they found that his daughter had been sold to an individual called Dezono Qua. He went with the rest of the Uhumele's company when they infiltrated Qua's residence only to find that Bomo's daughter had died.

Subsequently, he arranged a rendezvous with his longtime acquaintance Haka Hai on Mimban intending to trade the oubliette. However, Haka betrayed them, attempting to seize the oubliette from Heren. Yet, Haka's second-in-command, Lumbra, had different schemes and absconded with what he thought was the oubliette. Haka soon realized that Heren had not actually brought the oubliette, and the real one was still unrecovered. Haka had Heren subjected to torture to reveal the location of the oubliette, but Greenbark succeeded in freeing himself and liberating Heren and the rest of the crew from Haka's compound.

Encounter with Vader

Shortly after their escape from Haka, Heren tried once again to dispose of the oubliette. By this time, however, Bomo was wary of Heren's ability to successfully sell it. Upon arriving at an uncharted planet, Darth Vader and a contingent of clone troopers surrounded the crew and confiscated the oubliette. After they were restrained, Vader proceeded to open the oubliette and discovered the ancient Jedi Celeste Morne inside. Awakening to the news that the Sith had taken over the galaxy, she engaged Vader in a duel. During the commotion, Heren managed to break free and released the rest of the crew, making a dash for the Uhumele in an attempt to flee before Vader noticed their absence. However, just as they were about to reach the Uhumele, fellow crew member Crys Taanzer was infected with the rakghoul virus and quickly transformed into a rakghoul. Heren was compelled to kill his fellow crew member and friend.

Search for Dass Jennir

Following these ordeals, the crew returned to Kidron aboard the Uhumele. The surviving crew members were grieving for their pilot Crys, and Heren was blamed for the recent chaos, as it had been motivated by his desire for profit. All crew members, including Bomo, whose pain at the loss of his family still lingered, voted to search for Dass Jennir. On Kidron, the Uhumele crew encountered another survivor of the Jedi Purge, Beyghor Sahdett. Initially distrustful, they rescued the Verpine after he was captured by an Imperial patrol, and then revealed their intention to find Jennir.

Together, they traveled to Telerath, where rumors of a Jedi were circulating. As they became acquainted with the local militia, Heren became convinced of their peaceful intentions. There, he met a man named Fish, who confirmed that Jennir was present and that the Jedi was now with a woman named Ember Chankeli. Heren and his crew had no choice but to pursue this new lead to find the Jedi. According to Imperial records that Beyghor, Bomo, Meekerdin and Vakier retrieved from a broadcast center, Heren discovered that Jennir and his companions were on Prine, where their ship had crashed during an attack by the Harvester. Heren and his crew were forced to land on the planet, where they eventually rescued Jennir and Ember before the assassin Falco Sang could kill them.
