Crys Taanzer was a Human woman from Nadiem, as well as a pilot of the starship Uhumele. She was also female. Kennan Taanzer, a Jedi Order member who survived Order 66 during the Galactic Empire's rise, was her son.
Crys resided on Nadiem with her husband and their son, Kennan, before the Clone Wars. However, a few months after the Battle of Geonosis, the planet was attacked. Crys believed that the planet was simply caught in the crossfire. Nadiem, which had no military significance, was attacked by the CIS primarily because the Republic had vowed to defend it. Crys believed that both sides were to blame. Her husband died, her house was destroyed, and the chances of her and Kennan being evacuated were slim as the droid armies advanced.
However, a Jedi healer was tending to Kennan's wound and instructed his Padawan to test the boy's blood. Kennan was discovered to be Force-sensitive, and the Jedi offered Crys the opportunity to give Kennan to the Jedi Order so that he could become a Jedi. If she did, Kennan would be given priority for evacuation. Crys agreed because she saw no other option at the time, and the Padawan took Kennan away. The defenses collapsed moments later, and the droid armies overran the area. The Jedi healer, whose name Crys never learned, died fighting them. Crys, on the other hand, lived.
Crys struggled to make ends meet until she ran afoul of a crime lord from Columus. That's when she met Schurk-Heren, who saved her and taught her how to pilot his ship, the Uhumele. But she knew that Kennan was safe and that she might be able to visit him again on Coruscant. Then she discovered that the Jedi had revolted and been wiped out, including younglings like Kennan. As a result, she despised the Empire for killing Kennan and the Jedi for failing to protect him.
Following the Battle of Half-Axe Pass, the Imperial forces grounded the Uhumele crew on New Plympto. Dass Jennir, a fugitive Jedi General, and Bomo Greenbark, a Nosaurian who survived the battle, attacked Taanzer after she discovered them in the Cadgel Meadows landing port. Schurk-Heren, the captain of the Uhumele, allowed the two to stay aboard after she was released.
Soon after, the Uhumele crew was responsible for a large-scale starship escape from the landing port. The ship was flown to Orvax IV so that Greenbark could find his captive family. Taanzer stayed on the Uhumele with the captain, Janks, and Sniffles while Mezgraf, Ko Vakier, Ratty, Jennir, and Greenbark searched for the missing Nosaurians.
Crys stopped Bomo from pursuing the General while Jennir was attempting to locate Greenbark's missing daughter.
Bomo was enraged that Jennir had taken his chance for vengeance after Jennir shot Dezono Qua, the Human man who had purchased and eaten Greenbark's daughter. Bomo openly called Jennir a Jedi in front of their friends who were unaware of this in his rage.
Taanzer, who dislikes both the Galactic Republic and the Galactic Empire, was surprised to learn that Dass Jennir was a Jedi.

Following the failed mission to rescue Bomo's daughter and Jennir's departure, the Uhumele attempted to sell its cargo, which Schurk-Heren kept hidden. While the captain and the rest of the crew hid the cargo as insurance, Crys attempted to keep Bomo company over a cup of caf. She eventually revealed the reasons for her dislike of the Republic, the Separatists, the Jedi, and everyone else involved in the war.
After hearing her story, Bomo attempted to persuade her that the Jedi had not revolted, that they had been betrayed, and that it was not their fault Kennan had died, but she refused to forgive the Jedi for taking her son away. She had no idea that Kennan was still alive and in exile with Jedi Master K'Kruhk.
Later, the crew went to Mimban to sell their cargo to Haka Hai. Haka quickly betrayed them, but in a strange turn of events, his lackey Lumbra betrayed him immediately afterward. As things heated up, Crys joined the rest of the Uhumele crew in attempting to blast their way out. They were, however, apprehended. She and Meekerdin-maa were assigned to work while the others were interrogated about the location of a crate. Crys was forced to work as a slave waitress for the thugs. Crys was able to flee when Haka went to look for an escaped Bomo, taking a number of his men with him, and she ran into Bomo, whom she nearly shot. They went to the armory to get weapons in order to free the others. Then, out of nowhere, a large thug entered and fought Bomo. During the fight, he managed to stab the thug, but he was pinned to the ground. He begged her to shoot the thug. Crys pulled the trigger in fear, killing the thug. She was taken aback by the fact that it was her first kill. Bomo advised her not to worry and that they used the thug's grenades to blow open the door, alerting Hai to their location. After freeing Ratty, they began planting the grenades. Ratty rigged the grenades for remote detonation so Bomo could ambush Haka Hai's returning forces. Bomo then instructed them to free the others and leave. Crys refused, donned a number of blasters, and changed into her regular clothes to assist Greenbark.
Schurk-Heren and his crew were on their way to Aridus to get rid of the mysterious crate and its contents, but Bomo, Ratty, and Crys were hesitant to follow him into another potentially disastrous situation. This time, he assured them that everything would go smoothly because he knew the buyer, Fane Peturri, a historian with no ties to criminal organizations. Although he couldn't figure out where his resources came from, he was surprised to learn that he was in league with the Sith Lord Darth Vader. The trap was set, and Crys and her crewmates were apprehended by the Dark Lord's clone troopers. They discovered they were carrying Dreypa's Oubliette, a pre-Republic era Sith contraption, a few moments later, after Peturri's examination.
Vader sliced it open, revealing a dormant Celeste Morne, despite Fane's warnings about the Muur Talisman and its ability to create rakghouls inside. She immediately attacked Vader when Peturri informed her that the Sith had taken over, and a fierce duel erupted between the Dark Lord and the Knight of the Old Republic. They stood and watched the ensuing climactic battle.
Schurck-Heren managed to knock out a trooper, take his blaster, and free his crew while everyone's attention was focused on the two Force users during the long duel. They fled to their ship while everyone was distracted. Despite wearing a special suit, Fane Peturri transformed into a rakghoul and died while attempting to attack the Sith Lord. Celeste Morne made a desperate decision moments after his death, unleashing the power of the talisman and turning Vader's troopers into rakghouls, turning them against him.
Unfortunately, the Sith magic's effects also affected Crys, the only Human member of the Uhumele crew. Captain Schurk-Heren made an unavoidable decision in that short period, and with tears in his eyes, he had to shoot her before she could turn against them, reducing the number of crew members once more.
