Ember Chankeli, a Human female, ran an inn on her home planet of Telerath and later hired Dass Jennir for a task on Cato Neimoidia. Subsequently, she became Jennir's companion on his journeys, eventually becoming his romantic partner.

Born and raised on Telerath, she resided in the town of Noua, a place primarily sustained by tourism. However, the situation deteriorated when a slavers gang established its base there, leading to the collapse of most businesses, including Ember's. Driven by a desire to rid the town of the gang and restore its former glory, Ember placed an advertisement in a cantina on Cato Neimoidia, a hub for unofficial job postings. While several individuals vied for the job, including a Chistori thug and a young Human male, it was the former Jedi Dass Jennir who proved capable. Ember provided him with an initial payment in credits and a datachip containing the city's coordinates, agreeing to meet him there in two weeks from their first meeting.
Upon his arrival on Telerath, Jennir discovered that the slavers, led by a Chagrian named Musori, were not the only gang present. A second gang, involved in spice running and led by a pair of T'surr, was also vying for control, leading to constant conflict between the two factions. This revelation led Jennir to realize that his employer had only provided a partial account of the situation. Chankeli's true intention was to have Jennir eliminate the slavers, thereby creating an opportunity for the spice runners to thrive.
In the dead of night, while Jennir was tending to Dado, who had lost his right hand in an attempt to join Musori's gang through their head enforcer Mors Demanna, Ember secretly met with Ken-Kiba, the leader of the spice gang, to express her belief that Jennir could be easily manipulated. Additionally, she provided Ken-Kiba with a sentient slave as a gift.
However, during her absence, Jennir journeyed to Telerath's second moon, where he liberated the slaves held by Ken-Giree, Ken-Kiba's brother, and framed the slavers for his death.

The following morning, Ember returned to her inn to inquire if Jennir had eaten breakfast. When Tam reported that he had not been in his room during her last check, Ember unleashed her anger on Nikollane, who was preoccupied with her son. However, her attention was diverted when she saw Jennir walking with Mors Demanna, leading her to remark, "This is going better than expected." Ember then surmised that he had been recruited into Musori's gang. Nikollane voiced her disapproval of Jennir associating with those who had harmed her son, prompting Ember to strike her. She threatened to sell both of them to the Hutts and dispose of her son in a canal if they interfered with her plans.

Later, Jennir returned to Ember's inn, announcing that the gang issues would soon be resolved. Suddenly, Jennir rushed off after Nikollane informed him that Dado intended to betray him to Musori. Suspicious, Ember demanded answers from Nikollane. Ember then sought out Ken-Kiba, who was engaged in a gang war with Musori, and brought him and his gang back to her inn, where Jennir was attempting to persuade her slaves to leave. As Ken-Kiba prepared to exact revenge on Jennir, Nikollane activated the inn's trapdoor to facilitate his escape. Enraged, Ken-Kiba imprisoned Ember and all her slaves, realizing that she had been manipulating him, not Jennir.
After enduring mistreatment at the hands of the spicers, Ember was rescued by Jennir following a confrontation with Demanna, and she accompanied Jennir as he proceeded to conclude the battle with Ken-Kiba and his followers.

The events had tarnished Chankeli's reputation, making it impossible for her to resume her previous life. She requested permission from Jennir to accompany him on his travels. After he agreed, they set course for the planet Vondarc, where Chankeli claimed she wanted to visit her family. During the journey, they were attacked by Imperials, resulting in a crash landing on the desolate wasteland of the planet Prine. While searching for civilization, Chankeli confessed to her Jedi companion that she had no family on Vondarc, and that it was merely a ruse to accompany him on his adventures. After they were separated, Chankeli was abducted by a group of slave traders.
As Jennir tracked the slavers' caravan, he was being pursued by Falco Sang, a bounty hunter hired by the family of Dezono Qua to avenge his death at Jennir's hands. Eventually, both Jennir and Sang caught up with the slavers, and while the Jedi attempted to rescue Ember, the bounty hunter awaited an opportunity to kill him. He targeted the repulsorlift on the transport carrying Ember and a young girl named Maddie, causing Ember to fall. She urged Jennir to leave, and after he departed with Maddie, the bounty hunter captured her and allowed the surviving slavers to escape.
Ember proposed a collaboration to capture the Jedi, but Sang recognized her deception and instead used her as bait to lure Jennir into a trap. Ember was bound to a pole and gagged; any attempt to warn Jennir would result in her being shot by his droid Izee. However, Jennir proved to be more resourceful than Sang had anticipated. He deployed H2, disguised as himself, to force Sang to reveal his location, then used telekinesis to expose him. Sang ordered Izee to shoot Ember, but H2's chassis partially deflected the shot, leaving her wounded but alive. Izee then attempted to shoot Jennir, but the Jedi deflected the shot with his lightsaber, causing it to ricochet and destroy the droid. After Sang fled, Jennir attempted to heal Ember, but his emotional state and limited Force healing abilities yielded uncertain results, and he lost consciousness.

Fortunately, the pair were rescued by the crew of the Uhumele, who were searching for Jennir, and received medical attention. When Jennir entered the room, they shared an unexpected kiss, prompting the crew to grant them privacy. Jennir then ended the kiss, reminding himself of the Jedi code's emphasis on emotional restraint. However, Ember was unconcerned. She then remembered that Maddie had been left behind. Jennir spoke with Captain Schurk-Heren about returning to Prine. Meanwhile, Meekerdin-maa provided Ember with new clothes that had previously belonged to Crys Taanzer, although they were not her size. Sadly, Heren refused to return to Prine, as an Imperial battlecruiser was searching the planet. After the crew dispersed, Jennir informed Ember that the mount he had used during the rescue was helping guide Maddie back home, but he feared that he might have destroyed her hope of ever seeing them again. The pair then embraced as Jennir lamented the increasing dangers of the galaxy.
Ember's appearance was inspired by a friend of Randy Stradley named Kimber.
