Once, H2 functioned as a pilot droid under the command of Dezono Qua, a cruel cannibal hailing from Esseles. Following Qua's demise at the hands of Jedi Master Dass Jennir, the droid found himself in Jennir's possession. Despite faithfully carrying out Jennir's commands throughout their subsequent adventures, H2 harbored a clear disdain for his new master's actions, often delivering sarcastic remarks about Jennir's charitable choices and addressing him as "Man-who-killed-my-master." During this period, H2 secretly aided bounty hunter Falco Sang, who had been hired by Qua's family to locate Jennir, utilizing his secure channel for communication. This clandestine arrangement ended on Telerath when H2 sustained critical damage while conveying information from the mob-run town to Fish's dwelling. After Jennir's triumph over the Slavers, he made an effort to fix the droid. It's possible that the droid's acidic sarcasm was replaced by a happy demeanor due to the use of a number five memory cable splicer instead of the necessary number six, which affected his personality modulators. Additionally, it now completely acknowledges Jennir as its Master, which may have been facilitated by the amnesia it also experienced in its altered condition.
H2 saves Ember Chankeli on Prine.
Four months following the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Sang finally confronted Jennir on the planet Prine; however, he was disarmed and defeated. After the bounty hunter revealed the truth to Jennir, H2 feigned ignorance. Shortly thereafter, H2 intercepted a blaster shot from Sang's droid I-Z to protect Jennir's protégé Ember Chankeli, resulting in his deactivation, with his final words being an apology to his new master. Jennir, preoccupied with Chankeli, whom he presumed dead from the blast, failed to notice H2's deactivation.
When the Uhumele made planetfall on Prine, the crew rescued Jennir and Ember, and recovered the remains of H2. With assistance from Ratty, H2 underwent a complete restoration, although Jennir requested that the personality modulators not be repaired, and the newly rebuilt droid opted for a pink color scheme.
