The White Book, a field manual crafted by Alliance High Command, served as a resource for members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's military forces. This book outlined the four distinct stages of Alliance soldier instruction and established regulations that Rebels were expected to adhere to. A key example is the guide's almost complete ban on the ownership of intoxicating substances. The initial pair of training phases were consistent for all incoming recruits, while the third phase diverged based on whether the trainee was destined for space or terrestrial warfare, and the last phase was exclusively for Rebel Alliance Special Forces. During his address to nineteen trainees from the planet Haidoral Prime, First Sergeant Hazram Namir questioned the recruit Roach about her familiarity with the book; upon her affirmation, he dismissed it as a futile endeavor, asserting that it was penned by Generals who behaved as if they were managing a formal government, rather than leading a rebellion. Following the formation of the New Republic, Chass na Chadic observed that the guide was regarded by certain rebels as a mockery, and by others as an offensive effort to enforce Imperial order within the Rebellion.
Eventually, the New Republic sought to implement its own guidelines with greater strictness than the White Book had been enforced.
The first reference to the White Book appeared in Battlefront: Twilight Company, a book authored by Alexander Freed that was published in 2015.
