The central leadership body of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, was known by many names including: Alliance High Command, or Alliance Command, or Rebel Command, or Rebel Alliance High Command, or Rebel Council, or Alliance Council, or Rebel Alliance's ruling council, or Alliance's ruling council, or Rebellion Command, or even the Rebel Alliance command. This council was led by the Chancellor, Mon Mothma. It was often criticized by soldiers serving on the front lines for acting more like a governing body than a military command structure.
As the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire took shape, separate rebel groups began to unify their efforts to stand against the Galactic Empire's oppressive rule. A Rebel Command was then formed, including figures like Bail Organa and Commander Jun Sato. In 2 BBY, Organa and Sato gave the crew of the Ghost a mission: to rescue a rebel team under the leadership of Saw Gerrera from the planet of Geonosis.
After the Rebel Alliance was officially created, the Alliance High Command established a base on Dantooine. Later, they moved their central operations to a new base within the remains of the Great Temple located on Yavin 4. From this location, the Alliance launched their assault against the planet Scarif, which resulted in the acquisition of the technical data for the Galactic Empire's new superweapon, known as the Death Star.
After the evacuation from Yavin, the Alliance High Command convened within the Alliance Fleet to determine their next course of action. Leia Organa, fresh from a successful assault on Weapons Factory Alpha situated on Cymoon 1, advocated for her team to continue exploiting the Alliance's momentum against the Empire. However, Admiral Gial Ackbar informed the princess that maintaining such an offensive was not feasible given their current status as fugitives.
Four years after the Battle of Yavin, High Command had relocated its headquarters to Admiral Ackbar's flagship, the Home One. Upon discovering that the Empire was constructing a second Death Star above the Forest Moon of Endor, Rebel command gave the order for the Alliance Fleet to gather near the planet Sullust. It was there that they formulated the plan for the assault on the battle station.
Following the Galactic Empire's defeat during the Battle of Endor, the Alliance underwent a transformation into the New Republic. The Alliance High Command was eventually reformed into the New Republic High Command.
