The Rebel Alliance Intelligence Service, which is also known as Alliance Intelligence, Rebel Intelligence, or Rebel Alliance Intelligence, functioned as a division within the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Its primary function was to gather and assess data pertaining to military, diplomatic, and economic aspects of the Galactic Empire, subsequently relaying this information to pertinent departments within the Alliance. By the time of the Battle of Scarif, the position of Chief of Intelligence was held by General Airen Cracken, a role he continued to occupy during the Battle of Endor. Within the Rebel Files, a journal entry from chief of state Mon Mothma reveals her discomfort in collaborating with Intelligence, citing the "chilly moral pragmatism" of agents such as Davits Draven, which she felt allowed them to rationalize any transgression.

The establishment of Rebel Intelligence occurred between 19 BBY and 18 BBY, corresponding to the initial days of the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi Padawan, assumed leadership of the Intelligence network after being recruited into the rebellion by Senator Bail Organa. Their operational approach involved identifying and monitoring nascent resistance cells to assess their effectiveness in disrupting Imperial activities while maintaining secrecy. Organa considered this approach a harsh necessity, as the Empire possessed the capability to swiftly dismantle inexperienced groups and jeopardize the larger organization that Organa and Senator Mon Mothma were striving to build.
Rebel Intelligence utilized Kihraxz Light Starfighters in some of their operations. Following the Battle of Yavin, Alliance Intelligence received information indicating that archaeologist Chelli Lona Aphra had knowledge of the "Farkiller" weapon. Consequently, they dispatched Strike Team Misericorde with the objective of securing her. Airen Cracken, in his capacity as Chief of Intelligence, held the belief that assassinating Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine represented the sole means of bringing an end to the Galactic Civil War.
After the Battle of Hoth, Alliance Intelligence thoroughly reviewed and approved Operation Ringbreaker.
In the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance underwent a transformation into the New Republic, and Alliance Intelligence was subsequently reorganized into New Republic Intelligence.
