Strike Team Misericorde

Extraction Team Misericorde, alternatively known as Strike Team Misericorde, was a division of Rebel Alliance Intelligence. This unit was both created and commanded by Captain Magna Tolvan, a former Imperial Captain-Inspector who had switched her allegiance to the Rebellion. Following the theft of the Farkiller of Oo'ob the Apostate by archaeologist Chelli Aphra, who then offered it for sale on the black market, Strike Team Misericorde was dispatched to Unox with the mission of recovering the stolen item. Sister Six, a past associate of Aphra, recognized her; however, she was unable to prevent Captain Tolvan, whose memories had been manipulated to believe she had killed Aphra, from encountering the archaeologist.

History

Genesis

Captain Magna Tolvan established Strike Team Misericorde as an element of the Rebel Alliance Intelligence Service within days of her changing sides to join the Rebel Alliance. Under the leadership of the former Imperial Captain-Inspector, the team successfully stopped three assassination attempts and uncovered two double agents within the Alliance, whom they dismembered and returned to their senders. Chief of Rebel Intelligence General Airen Cracken developed significant confidence in Tolvan and treated any intelligence regarding an M.I. cell or a threat to the safety of their Commander-in-Chief, Senator Mon Mothma, with utmost seriousness.

Aphra's Capture

Within months of its inception, Strike Team Misericorde received orders to go to an abandoned Spice Mine located on Unox to secure the Farkiller, a notorious lightsaber and sniper rifle hybrid weapon previously wielded by the rogue Jedi Oo'ob the Apostate. The archaeologist Chelli Aphra had stolen the Farkiller from the Slinani Migration Shrine in the Red Mist and then offered it for sale on the black market. General Cracken specifically selected Tolvan and her squad for this assignment because of the prior romantic relationship between Tolvan and Aphra, which ended when Aphra altered Tolvan's memories, leading her to believe she had killed Aphra at Accresker Jail.

At the spice mine, Strike Team Misericorde swiftly caught Aphra and her accomplice Vulaada Klam by surprise, incapacitating their Qaberworm Gurtyl as it was attempting to transport them to their starship. Sister Six, the Xexto member of the team, instantly recognized Aphra, having previously been part of a mercenary group with her before joining the Alliance. Realizing that Tolvan believed Aphra to be deceased, Six became alarmed as Tolvan arrived in a UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft. The RA-7 protocol droid Teezee-Too then announced Aphra's arrest as the captain exited the craft and saw her. Aphra attempted to engage in a friendly conversation with Tolvan, who quickly realized that Aphra had manipulated her memories at Accresker Jail, causing her to become enraged. Aphra then tried to explain her actions before Tolvan interrupted her, expressing that she had missed her, and then immediately stunning her.

Farkiller Testing

Strike Team Misericorde attacks an Imperial system cell

Strike Team Misericorde brought Aphra back to Cracken at Trading Post Sh'ung-tesk, which served as the base for the Alliance High Command. As Aphra regained consciousness, Tolvan, Cracken, and Teezee-too were discussing her, and Teezee noticed a concealed pocket in her bag. Tolvan discovered an ancient lightsaber inside, which she recognized as one Aphra had taken from Accresker Jail. Cracken instructed the captain to utilize the kyber crystal within it for the Farkiller to deal with an Imperial system cell located on the trading post, which Tolvan suspected was targeting the Alliance High Command.

Under Tolvan's leadership, Strike Team Misericorde approached an Imperial System Cell undetected as they were extracting information from an Ishi Tib. The captain and her soldiers launched a surprise attack on the group before locating the rest of the system cell within an abandoned Bantha barn two kilometers outside of town. She then contacted Cracken, sending the feed from her binoculars to Teezee for him to view. Cracken authorized her to use the Farkiller, and she fired at the barn, destroying it instantly. Strike Team Misericorde then searched through the debris and found a datapad containing information about Aphra, suggesting that the system cell was actually after her and not Mon Mothma. Tolvan reported this to Cracken before returning to him as he offered Aphra a deal, which she declined, choosing to leave with Vulaada Klam.

Spy retrieval

Thassilio Smeuse is extracted by Strike Team Misericorde.

At a later time, Strike Team Misericorde was assigned the task of extracting Thassilio Smeuse, a deep-cover operative working as an Imperial officer. The strike team intentionally allowed themselves to be captured by a squad of stormtroopers on the swamp planet Ozri II after simulating engine failure on their U-wing. The undercover Smeuse arrived at the scene and received a briefing from a senior stormtrooper. When Smeuse inquired if the rebels had any last words, Tolvan recited a coded phrase, which the operative completed for her.

Strike Team Misericorde then eliminated the stormtroopers and escaped from Ozri II with Smeuse. They jumped into hyperspace aboard their U-wing while under fire from TIE fighters. The strike team transported Smeuse to the rebel base on the planet Hoth, where he was debriefed on his findings from his time undercover. Tolvan was also called to view a message sent for her, Klam, and Korin by Aphra.
