Chass na Chadic

Chass na Chadic, a Theelin female, began her piloting career with groups such as the Cavern Angels. She eventually became a member of the Rebel Alliance's Hound Squadron during the Imperial Era, piloting an A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter. After the Battle of Endor, Chadic remained with Hound Squadron until its destruction. Subsequently, she joined the New Republic's Alphabet Squadron, continuing to fly a B-wing.

Biography

Discovering Her Path

Around 21 to 16 BBY, Born Chass na Chadic was a Theelin female who served as a pilot for the New Republic. Growing up under the Galactic Empire, an overtly xenophobic regime, Chadic found it difficult to establish her identity as a Theelin without support. Throughout her life, Chadic witnessed her heroes die fighting for liberty, while she was left behind. While working on Uchinao in the Five Points system, Chadic was once targeted by a street gang. However, a woman who identified herself as Liana Hallik intervened and saved her before they could rob her. A year later, while on Koiogra, Chadic recognized her savior when she robbed a black-market shop that sold holovids, stealing music (which she started collecting to listen to and sing along with during battles) and propaganda for the rebellion. Upon watching the video, she realized that she had encountered Rebel Alliance icon Jyn Erso, and began to idolize her. Before enlisting with the Rebel Alliance, Chadic traveled to Jedha and flew with the Cavern Angels, and at one point, was associated with the Unignited Stars.

Eventually, Chadic became a part of Hound Squadron, piloting an A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter. On one occasion, Chadic commandeered and crashed Yeprexi's ship, a fellow member of Hound Squadron, into a bog. Fortunately, Yeprexi never reported the incident to their superiors.

Later, Chadic accompanied Hound Squadron on a reconnaissance mission aboard the Hellion's Dare, which was stationed on the planet Jiruus. A transmission received by the Hellion's Dare from a scout led to the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing pursuing them. Chadic and Hound Squadron, alongside the RZ-2 A-wing interceptors of Riot Squadron, defended the frigate. Chadic was enraged when Rununja, Riot Squadron's leader, declared Nasi Moreno, a Riot Squadron pilot who was last seen surrounded, killed in action after the jump to hyperspace. As the Hellion's Dare entered the Oridol Cluster, the squadrons were pursued, and their pilots were systematically eliminated. Chadic achieved the first kill and was ironically nicknamed the "Queen of Starfighters" by Sata Neek, a pilot from Riot Squadron. In a subsequent battle, Chadic's close friend Fadime lost their life, and Chadic, who had previously dismissed funerals as unnecessary, was overwhelmed with grief at Fadime's.

Following numerous attacks, the remaining members of the squadrons united under Rununja's leadership. Chadic's callsign was changed to Riot Ten. When Kreskian, the captain of the Hellion's Dare, ordered the new squadron to attack the 204th's Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier, Chadic flew alongside two other former Hound Squadron pilots, Merish and Glothe. After Glothe was killed, Chadic and Merish managed to damage the enemy cruiser-carrier. However, upon returning to the Hellion's Dare, they discovered that their ship's engines were ablaze and its hyperdrive was disabled. The new squadron was eventually decimated in multiple ensuing confrontations, leaving only Chadic and Wyl Lark to escape. A working group led by Agent Caern Adan rescued them, and they were integrated into Alphabet Squadron under the command of Lieutenant and self-proclaimed Alphabet Leader Yrica Quell, alongside Nath Tensent and Kairos.

Alphabet Squadron Service

Chadic, who remained resentful towards Lark and distrustful of her new squadron members, remained distant as the squadron practiced in the Gobreton minefield and in the flight simulators aboard the Lodestar. On one occasion, Chadic skipped a squadron briefing and volunteered to join a group of New Republic Special Forces on a mission. Upon learning of her actions, Quell lost her temper and pushed Chadic against a wall.

When Alphabet Squadron was dispatched on a mission to the planet Abednedo for reconnaissance, Chadic, Quell, and Kairos landed on the planet while Lark and Tensent remained in orbit. Chadic and Quell proceeded to Neshorino and met with a Verpine smuggler, who revealed a group of Imperial prisoners to them. While escorting a stormtrooper sergeant, one of the prisoners, back to Kairos, Chadic was ambushed by a group of stormtroopers. Using the prisoner as a shield, she reached Kairos, who was eliminating the troopers with her Bowcaster. Quell then instructed Chadic and Kairos to transport the prisoner into orbit. Chadic witnessed the destruction of the freighter escorting the other prisoners and returned to the Lodestar with the sergeant and the rest of the squadron.

Eventually, Alphabet Squadron received its next assignment and was sent to a moon of the planet Harkrova for a salvage operation. During the descent from the mountain where they landed to the supply cache, Chadic thanked Kairos for her assistance in saving her during the mission to Abednedo, which Kairos acknowledged silently. Chadic continued to ignore Lark, whom she still blamed for interfering with her efforts in the Oridol Cluster. However, when Lark asked her to share a story, as Tensent, Kairos, and he had already done, Chadic recounted her encounter with Jyn Erso.

Life After the War

Following the Battle of Jakku, which marked the end of the Galactic Civil War, Chadic discovered that her post-military career pension had been reduced to a single year's worth due to disciplinary actions. This left her in dire financial straits eleven months after the battle, as the final pension payment approached. She also sought therapy on Corulag, where she enjoyed sessions with a snake-woman, but ultimately found the process frustrating. After missing an appointment due to a tram breakdown and learning that the therapist was unable to reschedule for a month, she abandoned therapy altogether, opting not to continue with a droid. With nowhere else to go, she remained on Corulag.

By 11 ABY, she had reconnected with Quell and entered into a romantic relationship with her.

Personality and Characteristics

Chadic struggled with her identity as a Theelin while growing up, influenced by the Empire's xenophobia. Inspired by her encounter with Jyn Erso, she decided to pursue greatness, embarking on her own journey by joining the Cavern Angels and eventually the Rebel Alliance. She harbored resentment towards Wyl Lark for his actions in the Oridol Cluster and was slow to forgive him. During the assault on Pandem Nai, she nearly rammed a cruiser, lamenting that she had survived while many of her heroes had perished. She had a strained relationship with fellow pilot Lark, whom Chadic believed had deprived her of her agency when he forced them to retreat from the Cluster. Chadic often listened to music while flying, including genres such as Herglic rage-metal, deva pop, and glimmik.

Behind the Scenes

Chass na Chadic made her debut in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, authored by Alexander Freed. Freed assigned Chadic to the B-wing of Alphabet Squadron, believing that her personality aligned with the starfighter's characteristics. His original plans for the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy included Chadic's interactions with the Children of the Empty Sun cult in the second book, Shadow Fall, and the resulting transformation of her character.
