X-Wing Rogue Squadron #3, also known as "The Rebel Opposition, Part 3", represents the third installment within the Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron comic book series. Dark Horse Comics published it on September 26, 1995.
Tycho Celchu has successfully gained access to the Imperial military. He now possesses the capability to transmit crucial intelligence, potentially granting the Rebellion a distinct strategic advantage! However, when ordered to spearhead an assault targeting his former Rogue Squadron colleagues, he faces a profound moral dilemma: prioritizing the safety of his friends or remaining loyal to the Rebel cause.
Having effectively persuaded an Imperial garrison stationed on Cilpar of his allegiance as an Imperial pilot, Tycho Celchu joins Crimson Squadron in a mission directed against his former Rebel allies. Celchu employs concealed low-frequency signals to relay commands to his astromech droid, which then proceeds to launch Celchu's X-Wing into flight.
The Rebel Alliance and the Cilpari insurgents have transformed the ancient temple into a provisional supply hub. Dllr Nep attempts to alert the rebels to an approaching threat, but it turns out to be merely Celchu's X-Wing, which the rebels interpret as a signal to evacuate. As Celchu's X-Wing engages with the TIE fighters, Wedge Antilles, Elscol Loro, and Groznik engage the opposing TIE fighters. Celchu's X-Wing successfully eliminates numerous TIE fighters, including the vessel piloted by Wing Commander Grode, ultimately destroying Celchu's own TIE fighter just as Celchu initiates an ejection.
Celchu's X-Wing crash-lands within the Cilpari forest, and Winter subsequently emerges from the wreckage. Upon reuniting with Wes Janson, Winter reveals that she was concealed inside the X-Wing during its takeoff. Back at Rogue Squadron's headquarters, Antilles informs Elscol that he has received a message from an individual identified as "Targeter," providing Winter's location. Consequently, the rebels decide to dispatch Vance Rego to establish contact with "Targeter."
Under the cover of darkness, Celchu traverses the Cilpari forest, eventually arriving at the Imperial supply depot situated at the ancient temple. Rego makes his appearance and uses the oratay disc to disperse the ronks, departing in a speeder before Celchu can intercept him. Celchu reflects on Winter, who evokes memories of his deceased fiancée, Mia, who perished on Alderaan while Celchu was serving in the Imperial Navy.
Rego locates the cave sheltering Winter and Janson. Winter deceives Rego by impersonating Princess Leia. Falling for the deception, Rego confronts her, accompanied by a contingent of stormtroopers, and demands that Winter surrender her blaster.
