XPLR-R

The XPLR-R represented an early model of a hyperspace-route-mapping and habitation-location unit, engineered by Viper Sensor Intelligence Systems. In the era of the Separatist Crisis, Arakyd Industries, a competing entity, alleged that the XPLR-R was largely based on their own probe droid designs, which were considered proprietary. Consequently, Arakyd aggressively sought compensation and control over the technology rights of the upstart company, leading to a legal battle that spanned 18 months. VSIS, however, prioritized refining the XPLR-R's sophisticated sensor capabilities, neglecting their need to defend themselves in the corporate arena.

Not long before the commencement of the Clone Wars in the year 22 BBY, the disagreement surrounding the XPLR-R came to an end when Arakyd acquired its smaller rival through a forceful takeover of Viper Tower, maintaining VSIS as a unit for research and development. Having gained control of Viper's exclusive technology, Arakyd launched the Viper probe droid, which became the organization's most significant accomplishment to that point.
